Dear Listers,
I have received an apology from one of our members, whose Hotmail account
has been sending us a series of 'Vacation Reply' messages.
He explains, "Hotmail is seeing instances of accounts being 'hijacked' by
spammers who change a Hotmail setting so as to send everyone a message about
vacation and/or an electronics advert".
He will remain unsubscribed for the moment until he is sure the problem is
solved.
Kind regards,
John

I have just received the llangattock (nr crickhowell) and llanwenarth Wales
parish registers in my local library and I am happy to do look ups on these
films as I review them for my own family. Please contact me with any
requests.

Hello list.
I am trying to find out more about James PRITCHARD and his family. He was born c. 1806 Cwmyoy and in 1841, 51 and 61 census' was a farmer at Vishan, Cwmyoy Llanigon.
His son Benjamin married Mary GREENOW in 1861 They had children James, Mary Jane and Martha and in 1871 they lived at Ty Gwyn, Llanigon
It appears that Benjamin died between 1871 and 1881 as in the 1881 census Mary is a widow, living with her mother Ann at Cae Bannal, Llanigon.
I have been unable to find a death record for Benjamin in BMD's except for one in Chester which doesn't seem to quite fit.
Could anyone tell me which church records might be appropriate to search for records of this family?
Does anyone have any knowledge of their abodes?
Any suggestions advice or links would be very much appreciated.
Best Wishes
Fee Manley
Hello Fee
So near. I am in Portishead. Have you been to the Archives in
Llandrindod? If not, be aware that they have limited space and you need to
book.
Pam
Look on the right hand side of the BBC page!
http://www.icmacentre.ac.uk/soldier/database/
That is one thing the BBC News pages are good for, they usually link to
other sites though they do not always get it right but they do correct if
informed by someone.

records are held at the Archives office in Llandrindod Wells, Powys.

Pam
I saw the following in the BBC news this morning. Perhaps it might interest
some of our List members.
Mind you it would help if we knew where the web site can be accessed :))

Medieval battle records go online
The detailed service records of 250,000 medieval soldiers, including archers
who served with Henry V at the Battle of Agincourt - have gone online.
The database of those who fought in the Hundred Years War reveals salaries,
sickness records and who was knighted.
The full profiles of soldiers from 1369 to 1453 will allow researchers to
piece together details of their lives.
Thomas, Lord Despenser is the youngest soldier on the database, whose career
began when he was aged just 12 in 1385.
Elsewhere, the career of Thomas Gloucestre, who fought at Agincourt, can be
traced over 43 years and includes campaigns in Prussia and Jerusalem.
'Remarkable survival'
The website is the product of a research project by Professor Anne Curry of
the University of Southampton and Dr Adrian Bell of the University of
Reading.
Dr Bell said: "The service records survive because the English exchequer had
a very modern obsession with wanting to be sure that the government's money
was being spent as intended.
"Therefore we have the remarkable survival of indentures for service
detailing the forces to be raised, muster rolls showing this service and
naming every soldier from duke to archer."
He said accounts from captains showing how funds were spent and entries
detailing when the exchequer requested the payments can be found.
The free-to-use website, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council,
also shows which soldiers rode the furthest.

Good Morning Listers,
Can anyone tell me please if it would have been necessary for families emigrating to the United States in the 1880's to have applied for a passport in order to do so?
Many thanks
