Dear Listers,
Powys Listers should be aware that unfortunately, offering lookups on
FindMyPast's 1911 census transcription, especially in a public forum like
this mailing list, almost certainly contravenes the conditions of use of
the FindMyPast facility.
Please do not use this List as a medium to request such lookups.
Kind regards,
John

Can anyone please help me with this search.
John Mason born c 1817 Trefeglwys, ( 1851census) father also John Mason, a
publican, according to marriage cert. John has died by 1861, so I have no
other details.
In 1841 John is a grocers journey man living in Wrexham with a Thos
Francis 40 Grocer also from Montgomeryshire.
As far as I can see no other Masons in the 1841 census are connected to
John.
This is the only information I have.
Thank you

Hello,
I have been contacted about my Morris relatives recently. They lived in Llanwyddelan, traveling by way of Liverpool. They arrived in New York on the ship Sardinian the 9 June 1851. My GG Grandfather Griffith Morris moved his family, including seven children ages 9 through 23. His wife was deceased, dying after the birth of the 9 year old.
Any suggestons about the cost of this endeavor or trials. I know they were in Wales for the 1851 census.
Sincerely,

Barb,
I would like a look-up on the 1911 census please.
Margaret (Edwards) Morris in Rhyl, Wales. She would be 57, widow, perhaps
living with her daughter Minnie (Morris) Edwards age 27 or her brother John
Edwards age 50.
If she is not living with her daughter Minnie, could you also look up Minnie
and Harold Edwards in Rhyl, Wales with their daughter Margaret age 4.

Hi Graham,
Nice to hear of your travel plans to Liverpool, and I hope it all goes

Are there any local census records of my MGY Cleatons in Birkenhead

Thanks to Alun Evans for your contribution re Montgomeryshire churches.
Much appreciation, Rhian for your comments.
In May various family members and I were at St. Dogfan researching all the
Evans gravestones.
It was a very wet Welsh day. Wonderful meal at The Plough Inn.
Regretably there was no time to drive to Cefn Coch.
I have a list of the Evans' names. Sadly, most of them seem not to have
connection to Cefn Coch or my family. Confusion reigns because of
commonality of names and lack of specifics for which hamlet/village the
house addresses belong.
Diolch,
Joan

Good morning Listers,
I am trying to find out more about the family of two brothers Thomas
and Esia (Variations thereof) Price who I have found on the census for
1891 and 1901 residing in Llanelly, Carms. and Bridgend, Glam. They
say that they were born either in Trefeglewys or Newtown, Thomas in
1865 and Esia in 1869. I think Thomas may be the Thomas Henry PRICE
who's birth is registered in the September quarter of 1865 in Newtown,
but I have no idea about Esia who was also known as Si. Does any
lister have any knowledge of this family please? I believe that there
are descendents still living in the Newtown area.
Many thanks

Joan,
I read your message and as I know the area very well so I just thought
I would respond.
Churches serving the area would be at Llanllugan

and Llanwyddelan:

Slightly further afield you have Tregynon:

and Manafon:
http://www.cpat.demon.co.uk/projects/longer/churches/montgom/16907.htm
I have relations buried in them all. As far as I am aware there are no
chapels of various denominations with burial grounds within a few miles
of Cefn Coch.
I hope that helps.
With Best Wishes

Not knowing the area very well, so forgive my ignorance if I'm wrong, I
wonder if there are two areas named Cefn Coch? One is the village that
Alun is referring to.
However, I was in Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant churchyard three or four
weeks ago on my way home from holiday, after many years since my last
visit. I noticed some headstones referring to Cefn Coch and since there
was a cluster of them I came to the conclusion it was more than one
house of that name, but more likely a small settlement, but not the
same village of Cefn Coch as I'd been to a few days earlier. Looking at
the map later I saw that it looks like the name of a small area or
cluster about a mile NW of Llanrhaeadr across the valley from Ochr Hen
Fache. There does appear to be a chapel just off the road between
Llanrhaeadr and Penybontfawr, but whether it has a burial ground is
another thing.
On the 1:50 000 125 map Bala & Lake Vyrnwy the chapel's map reference I
hope (not being good at doing this) is SJ 101 256
By the way, since I'd last been to the churchyard at Llanrhaeadr many
of the stones have been moved to prop up against the side wall or to
form a row at the edge of the river.

Hi Robert,
Re your question:
Hello Everyone,
I have a puzzle that I am hoping to get some help with. Take a look at the information below.
>From the Breconshire Register of Successful Vaccination Llangamarch (Penbuallt)
Jeffery son of David Price b 20 April 1854 Twynrhydd house.
John son of David Price b 13 Febuary 1856 Twynrhydd house.
David son of Elizabeth Price b 9 April 1857 Twynrhydd house.
William son of Elizabeth Price b 27 July 1858 Twynrhydd house.
David Price son of Anne Price b 15 November 1859 Twynrhydd house.
Ruth Price daughter of David Price b 31 December 1859 Twynrhydd house.
On 1861 census Jeffery Price age 7, John age 5, David age 4, and Ruth age 1 are living with David and Elizabeth Price Twynrhydd house.
Owen son of Elizabeth Price b 5 July 1861 Twynrhydd house.
On the 1871 census John Price age 13, Ruth age 11, and Owen age 9 are living with David and Elizabeth Price Twynrhydd house.
My puzzle is this: Why are there children listed (David and Owen) as being born to Elizabeth Price (so out of wedlock?), and then they appear on the census as children of David and Elizabeth Price? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
Robert Price
It isn't unusual for children of earlier marriages to be listed on the census under the new father's surname, so it looks to me as though David and Elizabeth married around 1858-59 and both had children from previous marriages. Free BMD lists three marriages in Breconshire between a David Price and an Elizabeth around this time, so it could be one of these. You could look for births of children under one of these surnames that match up with the children said to be Elizabeth's. That wouldn't be proof in itself, of course, but it could give you a pointer as to where to look for further evidence.
Regards
Dave in Oz

I sent this earlier, but think I used wrong address the first time.
William MEREDITH was born in 1806 in Peterchurch, Herefordshire, England.
He is believed to have lived and worked as a blacksmith in Hay,
Breconshire, Wales. He was buried 3 April 1836 at St. Michaels, Clyro,
Radnorshire, Wales where his parents attended church and were buried even
though they lived in Cusop, Herefordshire, England. The two daughters of
deceased William MEREDITH were mentioned (but not named) in will written
in 1840 of his uncle James PITT Jr.
The FIRST wife of William MEREDITH was Mary. Their daughter Juliana Pitt
MEREDITH was christened 27 April 1831 in Hay, Breconshire, Wales. This
wife Mary apparently died. I have been able to follow Juliana to
Cornwall, England where she worked, married, and later died.
The SECOND wife of William MEREDITH was Elizabeth. Their daughter
Caroline Pitt MEREDITH was christened 12 March 1833 in Hay, Breconshire,
Wales.
I have several questions.
What was the maiden name of first wife Mary and of second wife Elizabeth?
When and where did they marry William MEREDITH? When did Mary die or
when was she buried and where?
Recently came across a marriage for an Anthony CODINGTON (not CODRINGTON)
and Elizabeth MEREDITH on 6 November 1836 at St. John in Brecon,
Breconshire, Wales. Might she be the widow of William MEREDITH? Do not
know how to answer this as it is before registration of marriages began
in late 1837.
The 1841 census for Hay, Breconshire, Wales shows a family that to me
looks like it might be the two daughters of deceased William MEREDITH
with Caroline's mother and the second husband of that mother. What do
you think?
Anthony CODRINGTON (not CODINGTON), age 40, not born in the county
Elizabeth CODRINGTON, age 40, not born in the county
Julia MEREDITH, age 10, born in county (she is both Julia and Juliana on
later census records in Cornwall, England)
Caroline MEREDITH, age 8, born in county
The free BMD shows a death of an Elizabeth CODRINGTON in December quarter
1850 in Hay district. Might this be the mother of Caroline Pitt
MEREDITH? Would a death certificate show the names of both husbands or
just her second one?
Any suggestions on where to look for additional details on questions
asked above and to learn more about Anthony CODRINGTON?
