I currently have access to some Darowen records but there is no church
baptism to anyone of that description.
One always suspects possibility of a chapel baptism and I believe I have
found her online at
http://www.familysearch.org
Put in Gwen, rather than Gwenllian, Rowland in the search and you should
find her at Machynlleth Independent chapel in 1819.

Hi,
I am looking for the Rowland family in Darowen. My 3rd great grandmother, Gwenllian Rowland was born in Darowen around 1819. In the 1851/1861/1871+ census returns she is married and living in Monmouthshire. Unfortunately, I have not been able to go back any farther or find her marriage to Richard Lloyd, sometime before 1840.
Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Wendy
Hi.

Dear Di,
Glascomb is a misspelling of Glascwm.
You can call up a highly detailed (1:10,560-scale) late 19th century map of
Glascwm on the Old Maps website at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/
On the main page, click on the illustration which states "Click here to
begin your search". On the search page which appears, enter 315500 and
253200 into the co-ordinates search fields and click the GO button
alongside.
When the small map appears, click on the "Enlarge Map" icon on the
right-hand tab. A highly detailed map of the area will open in a new window,
centred on Glascwm. You can explore the surrounding area by re-centring the
small map using the triangular white 'nudge' controls on each side and at
each corner of the small map.
Kind regards,
John

Hi list,i have hit a brick wall, can you help.
My great grand father Rees EVANS married Eliza Victoria Davies on the 24th Nov: 1860 in the parish church of Glascwm. Rees was of full age & a servant living at Bryas, father David EVANS lab>.Eliza was 19 a servant living @ The Cottages, father John DAVIES lab.
On your CD " Powys Parish Registers St Davids church Glascwm +1841-1871 census",i found Rees & Eliza living @ Hill Castle,Stavwn Fach Glascomb Reg:District Presteigne.Rees is 26 & Eliza 18,both born Glascomb,(should this be Glascombe,(Glascwm) ,).
On the 1871 census there is no trace of Rees, but Eliza is now living with William ROGERS age 29 along with John & Price EVANS stepsons plus Lewis age 1 & Arthur G son age 3,(no trace of marriage for Eliza & William). On the 1881 census Arthur is now 13(my grand father).
On finding Arthurs birth cert:,it turns out that his full name is Arthur Rogers EVANS.
I can find no trace of Rees EVANS on the 1841/1851 or1871 census.Assuming he died arround 1867,(Arthur was b 14/12/1867,i have found no death cert:.T he nearest death cert: i did find ,that could fitwas listed in the June qtr 1867 age 37 Bridgend 11A280, but this was for a suicide, which dose not quite fit & why so far away ?( i have more info on that).
So what happened to Rees EVANS,can anyone suggest where i could search next,? Buy the way none of the above info can be found on Ancestry.co.uk or Find my past.
Also it might be helpful if i could find a map of Glascwm area arround 1860.

Apologies for the cross-list posting for those of you with subscriptions to numerous Welsh/borders lists.Dear list,
I wonder if anyone has a Welsh or borders connection in the family tree that might help locate other members of this family?
Ellin Jones may have also been known as Ellin Thomas owing to the vagaries of Welsh surnames around the 1820s.
So any Catherine Davenport [?] d pre 1824 with a daughter Mary Davenport?
Ellin Thomas, below, the niece to whom all the residue went was aunt, I think, to my gt gt gt grandfather (John Thomas). Both are found at Pandymawr in 1841 and only John in 1851.
Please reply "off list" as well as "on list".

I've acquired a birth cert. for Lucy Ann Breeze, born 14th Jan. 1849, in my efforts to link her with Breezes in Montgomeryshire. Her parents are given as Thomas Breeze and Mary Nicholls. Lucy was born in St. Giles in the fields and St. George, Bloomsbury., Middlesex. I have looked for parents' marriage in indexes online from 1837- 1849 without success
Lucy married Edward Woolley in Newtown in 1867 and they lived at Brook House, Llandinam later on. If anyone knows anything about Lucy's parents, especially Thomas, I would be interested. I'm quite happy to part with the birth cert, if it's of use to anyone.

An archivist would be able to advise you on the most likely newspaper.
Try the Powys Archives.
Contact details at
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archon/searches/
locresult_details.asp?LR=223
Having found a suitable newspaper the Powys Archives may have it on
microfilm or you should be able to physically view it at the British
Library (Newspaper) in Colindale, London.
For directions see http://www.bl.uk/aboutus/quickinfo/loc/colindale/

Alternatively you may be able to view it online at the British
Library reading rooms, St Pancras, London, or if you have contacts in
Further or Higher Education you could obtain (or arrange to view) the
newspaper online at such an establishment.

Hello List
Can anyone assist me with my brickwall with my Beavan/Bevan family, please? Is anyone related to my Beavan or Lewis families, please?
I know for certain that my Howell Lewis married a Sarah Bevan at Boughrood Parish Church Radnorshire on the 18 August 1824. A daughter of John and Sarah Beavan was baptised at Glasbury Parish Church Breconshire on 20 September 1801. Glasbury Church is just across the other side of the Wye River from Boughrood. The river divides the two counties. There are no other baptism's of any other children for John and Sarah Beavan at either churches.
The only marriage that may relate to John and Sarah Beavan is one that took place at Cloddock and Longtown Parish Hereford by licence on 16 July 1801. This church is not too far away. John Beavan a farmer recorded that he was from Allansmore and Sarah was from Cloddock her maiden name was Lewis.
In the Allansmore baptisms John is recorded as the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Beavan baptised 4 February 1775.
Now comes the problem there are in total seven Thomas Beavan's marriages between 1771 and 1775 The one that looks most likely is 9 September 1768. Thomas Bevan to Elizabeth Lewis of Eaton Bishop. This Thomas Bevan is from Allensmore. Does any of the above tie in with your family, please? Do you know if I am on the right track?
All the best

Hallo,
I am wondering if anyone has in their family tree a Rachel Maddy (obviously she will have a different married name). She was born Llyswen 1802. She is registered in the Llyswen Parish Records as being the daughter of Evan Maddy.
I have tried to find her in the 1841 Census but have not been successful. I believe it is possible that she lived at Tregoyd Brecon around this time and may have been married to A ..........Griffiths but have no proof. I would be grateful if anyone can throw any light on this or whether they have a Rachel Maddy in their family possibly married to someone else but within the same timescale.
Thanking the list in anticipation.

Dear Listers, I'm trying to find out what happened to the descendants of Thomas Morgan (1813-1892), who was a blacksmith in Crickadarn. He married Lydia Powell in 1838 and they had 8 children between 1840 and 1858: Thomas, Lydia, Esther, Catherine, John, David, Joshua and Margaret. Their surname is sometimes spelled Morgans. I am particularly interested in David Morgan, who was born on 6 October 1849 in Crickadarn Village. Any information would be appreciated. Philippa Claiden (new to the list)

In January 1999, a Peter Davies of Courtenay, British Columbia posted the
following:
..."I would add another drowned Davies as I spotted one in my family tree.
There is a note saying that Mary Davies drowned near Rhuddlan. Mary was the
spouse of John Davies of Bwlchmawr, Llanwenog (Parish, Cardiganshire), born 1
March 1747 and she was also the daughter of Thomas David Jenkin but I don't
have the exact date. She managed to have 10 children before she went for her
swim!..."
I hope that Peter is still a member of this list or that someone knows him
because, I, too, am related to the John Davies of Bwlchmawr, Llanwenog and I
would very much like to talk to him.
Thanks,
Annie Lloyd
