Rees WALTERS - son of Llewelyn WALTERS & Ann MELIN - was from a family
of cordwainers in Brecon Town.
However the family seem to have left the town around 1800 and do not
show up again until 1813 when Rees and siblings Llewellin and
Elizabeth were baptised at Brecon St. Mary.
From the information on the census Rees was born in Breconshire circa
1806.
I would like to find more information on Rees to get a firmer birth
date and the only thing that comes to mind is apprenticeship records
for cordwainers/shoemakers. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Good eveningI am looking for Philip GLEAVE born 3 Apr 1811 in Stockport, Cheshire, and baptised 2 Jun 1811. I have a newspaper cutting from 1835 in Liverpool where he is a witness at a coroners inquest. He was living back in Stockport upto 1838 where he worked as a Hair Cutter, then disappears. I have a possible link in Bristol when a Rosamond GLEAVE was born 2 Aug 1849 her parents are Philip GLEAVE and Elizabeth GLEAVE (nee BULKLEY). Philips mother was called Rosamond, which is why i think this is my Philip.Whilst browsing through Ancestry I have found death of a Philip GLEAVE registered Crickhowell, Breconshire Q1 1867 and a Charlotte GLEAVE Q4 1879. I have also found a trade directory from 1868 showing a Philip GLEAVE a bill-poster from Bryn-Mawr, Llanelly. I also have Charlotte in the 1871 Census in Llanelly. Has anyone any other information on Philip and Charlotte. Many thanks Chris

Hi List,
I wondered if anyone had come across the name Demaskie, other variants,
Demaske, Demasky, Demonski, Demaskey. They seem to have originated in Germany,
Father Christopher Demasky and Mother Elizabeth. They seem first to be found
in Worcestershire, but ended up in Abergavenny. I have five children for this
family, three sons and two daughters, I know the parents and all three sons
came to Abergavenny.
My problem is, I have a Rose Hannah Demanskie b 1878 Abergavenny, who
married a Samuel Hall in 1901. In the census of that year they are living in
Panteg with Samuel's mother Hannah, and they also have a daughter Helen Hall,
b1898, I believe I have tracked Helen's birth to a Ellen Demanskie born in
Pontypool in 1897. But I can't find Rose Hannah's birth.
Does anyone have any information on this family. I would be very grateful
for any information, Many thanks,
Pauline

Hello Again,
I think the wording wasn't clear in my message; sorry for the confusion. I do know that Trevethin is not in Montygomeryshire. What I tried to say was I have found conflicting evidence for where Evan was born. On the one hand a census entry says Montgomeryshire, but on the IGI it says Trevethin, Monmouthshire. So my problem was which source would be more reliable? Somehow Evan's birth was reported as being two different places.
I have found a lot of Nokes in the Welshpool area, but at the same time Evan was married in Trevethin and had several children born in Monmouthshire. But now I understand that the IGI entry could be faulty.
So, I thank you all for the suggestions, especially to John for your explanations about the IGI! I will go with my initial feeling that Evan was probably born in Montgomeryshire, not Trevethin, and look at the variant spellings of Nokes more carefully.
Kind Regards,
Tomi

Hello all.
I'm trying to find where I can buy copies of the parish registers for
Llanfair Caereinion, Llanwyddelan, Llanllugan and St Mary's Welshpool
(all Church of Wales). The time I'm looking for is 1835 to about 1880
and I want both births (or baptisms) and marriages.
I've looked in quite a few places, including a visit to the
Montgomeryshire Society Office but so far with no success at all.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction.
Heddwch
Mike.
