Some where down the line Edward's wife Mary (Hamer) passed away and he
married an Elenor ?
I have no idea who she was. What ever happen to her, I also have no idea.

Dear Ms Richards,
Please may I ask a question. Do you have a Nonconformist register for the
Chapel that existed in Llanigon at one time. I have my ancester Evan Maddy
marrying Ann Price at Llanigon Church in 1766 and Ann was buried in Glasbury
Parish Church in 1806. There is no record however, of Evan and I am
wondering if he was a Nonconformist and was buried at the Chapel in
Llanigon.
Please let me know what charge you make for an answer.
Please may I also book two readers for my husband and myself, preferably the
two near the door for Tuesday 17th June 2008 all day.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,

Hallo,
My family and I are having a holiday in the area between Bronllys and Glasbury in June and would like to know if anyone
on the Powys list can tell us if there is still a Baptist Chapel open in Glasbury. If not, is Ebenezer Chapel, Felindre still Calvinistic Methodist and who is the Pastor. I also wonder if the Calvinistic Methodist is still open in Llyswen. Do they have services morning or evening? I hae also found a Bethel Chapel in Bronllys which is also Calvinistic Methodist and wonder if this is still open too. Do they all have Pastors?
Thanking you in anticipation.
Sue Welham.
Dear list,
Over the past number of years I have been trying to chase up the history
of the Welsh blood that so proudly flows through my veins,
but each time I seem to run into that big brick wall.
I am not sure if this is the right list, but anyway will try.
This is the family history as I know it.
*Great Great Great Grand Father* Edward Isaac*? Nothing known about
Edward Isaac if that is indeed his name.
* * * * *
Great Great Grand Father*, John Isaac.* Born Approx, 1823. Born:-
Glyncerrwy, Denbighshire, Wales.
Great Great Grand Mother*, Ruth Isaac. (Maiden name Ruth Roberts?)* Born
Approx ,1827. Born:-Llangwm, Denbighshire, Wales.
* * * * *
Great Grand Father*, Edward Isaac.* Born: 24-January-1851 Born:
Llancadwaladr, Mongomeryshire, Wales.
*
** * * * **
My understanding is that the family moved to Lancashire in England where
*Edward Isaac married to Mary Hamer on 8 July 1871*.
I am looking forward to hear of any information regarding my Welsh
background.
Grateful thanks for any information.
Kind regards,

Thanks for your answer.
Some of the older houses have a "floor plan" available in archives that we
could buy copies of. Trouble is I don't know which archives to contact to
see if it would be available, I know I'm "spitting into the wind" but one
can only try.
As far as I know the building I am after has not been declared of Historical
Interest.
The only glimmer of hope I have on the horizon is that an act of Parliament
was passed c. 1730 declaring the building to belong to the crown (and thus
sold) in payment of arrears of rent of a meadow. Perhaps there would be
something in that avenue?
Cheers

Do you mean a contemporary plan, prepared in 1590/1790? Or do you mean a
more recent plan - possibly drawn up by a modern historian - giving a
retrospective impression of what a particular building would have looked
like at those dates?
If you mean the former, then you have virtually no chance - contemporary
architectural drawings or ground plans are simply not going to exist for the
overwhelming majority of buildings dating from that time. If you mean the
latter, it will obviously depend on the particular building, and whether any
historian has ever found it of sufficient interest to study in so much
detail (and then to publish the results).
In many areas, the current general requirement to submit plans for approval
by local building inspectors would date in its modern form from some time
around the 1870s. However, whether a particular local authority's
collection has survived intact from that far back will vary considerably
from place to place. Nor are there many private firms of architects likely
to have retained plans from any earlier date.
> Today it would be so easy, just go to the local council and get a copy,
> but I guess there weren't those provisions all those years ago.
I don't think that is correct - councils in the UK today won't necessarily
have a permanent blanket policy of always supplying copy plans of private
dwellings to all and sundry (including to non-neighbours) if the applicant
doesn't actually own the building. However, the exact nature of any such
restrictions has traditionally been a matter of individual discretion.
AJ
Barry,
"Llancadwaladr" is *not* a parish located in Montgomeryshire but, rather,
it's in Denbighshire ("Llangadwaladr"), to the south, very near the border
with Montgomeryshire -- there's also a parish of the same name in Anglesey.
GENUKI pages for Denbighshire -- much information here:
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/DEN/
There are also two Rootsweb mailing lists covering Denbighshire:
CLWYD and WLS-Denbighshire. Subscribe to each in the same way you
subscribed to the Powys list. The welcome message will provide you with the
address to send postings to.
I believe obtaining Edward ISAAC's (b.1851) marriage & birth certificates
should be your starting point (as well as locating him on all later census
returns). You didn't mention where you obtained his date of birth. His
marriage certificate will provide the name and occupation of his father and
his birth certificate will provide you with a certain maiden name of his
mother, as well as their residence at the time of the birth.
A check using www.freebmd.org.uk for a marriage of Edward ISAAC and Mary
HAMER in the years immediately surrounding 1871 yielded this reference:
Sept. Qtr. 1871
Isaac Edward
Hamer Mary (listed on same Vol/Pg.)
District: Bolton
Vol. 8c, Pg. 455
Bolton Reg. District covers sub-districts listed here:
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/bolton.html
Suggest you obtain this marriage certificate as a first step. Instructions
are here:
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/Certificates.html
There were no results fitting your Edward ISAAC in the 1881 Census for all
of England & Wales -- presume they had emigrated by this time? Since he was
married in Lancashire in 1871, it would be advantageous to locate him in the
1861 & 1871 Census returns and obtain any birth certificates of their
children born before they emigrated.
I was able to locate the parents, John ISAAC & Ruth, in 1881 -- note their
birthplaces (Ruth's should read: Llangwm) -- both parishes are in
Denbighshire. You may be able to connect with other ISAAC & ROBERTS family
researchers from the mailing lists and from joining the Clwyd Family History
Society.

The household next door appears to be their son and his family -- note
John's age -- if Edward was born in Denbighshire in 1850/51 and John was
born in Farnworth, Lancashire in 1857/58, that points to the migration to
Lancashire within that time period so you should be able to locate the
entire family in Farnsworth in the 1861 Census -- check the GENUKI pages for
Lancashire resources.

A check of the NorthWalesBMD Index at: www.northwalesbmd.org.uk for 1849
through 1853 for "All Regions" yielded only 1 result in 1850 for an Edward
ISAAC, registered in the Sub-District of Llanfair Caereinion (Registers at
Welshpool, MGY), Reference LLANFAIR/05/78. According to the information on
the website, a birth in Llangadwaladr would fall under the Sub-District of
Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant in the Llanfyllin Registration District (again,
these registers are held at Welshpool now). The site indicates the indexing
for this sub-district is complete for 1837-1950.
Another check of the NorthWalesBMD Index for the marriage of John ISAAC &
Ruth ROBERTS came up trumps:
Marriage 1849
ISAAC, John
ROBERTS, Ruth
Llangadwaladr, St Cadwaladr
Registers at Powys-Welshpool
Ref: CL25/1/9
You can obtain this certificate directly from the Supt. Registrar at
Welshpool. I would ask them to check their registers for the 1850 entry of
Edward to see if the parents' names match -- otherwise, I suppose they may
have registered his birth in Farnworth -- worth checking. The Lancashire
BMD website indicates they have not yet completed indexing Farnworth
(Subdistrict of Bolton) so you may have to use the GRO Indexes and order
directly from the GRO.
I checked the 1851 Census for Montgomeryshire and your ISAAC family is not
shown (the census was enumerated Sunday, March 30, 1851). You'll need to
look for the family in Denbighshire (probably Llangadwaladr) or in
Farnworth, LAN, in 1851 - perhaps someone on the other lists will have the
1851 Census or you can sign up for one of the pay-for sites.
Once you've obtained the marriage certificate for John ISAAC & Ruth ROBERTS,
you can then search for their parents' households in the 1851 & 1841 census
and also look for their deaths, monumental inscriptions, etc.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Julie Preston

Hi
It's been a long time since I've partaken in the discussions, but here's one
for you all.
I would like to know where or even IF I can get hold of a building floor
plan, built c.1590 and rebuilt c.1790.
Today it would be so easy, just go to the local council and get a copy, but
I guess there weren't those provisions all those years ago.
Denise, would you know if the Morgans have any such thing?
Thanks

I am hunting for a marriage licence for Benjamin Thomas b. Abt. 1793 and Hannah? b. Abt. 1800
probably in Merthyr Tydil. . Do I have the right place in Wales to start from.
They were probably married around 1815-17 as theirf first child was born in 1817.
These are my g.g.. grandparents and I have been unable to find them in Wales at all. A great thanks to any one that can lead me in the right direction, Virginia
I bought my copy a few years ago, and the address on the CD is

I don't know if his e-mail is still valid or not, but I will enter it in

him.

Try that. The copyright date on mine is 2001. Does anyone have newer

Dear Listers,
I have just uploaded this week's Retrospectives onto my website. They
include:
1. A photographic exploration of the ancient and derelict parish church at
Baglan, near Port Talbot, in the county of Glamorgan (thirteen pictures).
This feature was first shown on 'Images of Wales' in December 2003.
2. Photographs of three parish churches in the county of Monmouthshire (four
pictures). The churches are: St Cadoc's at Llangattock Vibon-Avel; St
Govan's at Llangovan; and St Dingat's at Dingestow. This feature was first
shown on 'Images of Wales' in September 1998.
As usual, these webpages will be on display for one week.
'Retrospective Images of Wales' is at

Powys List member Helen Whyte in Canada has drawn my attention to the
following news item, which should be of interest to everyone:
-------------------------
Scotland Online acquires FindMyPast.com
Two major organizations in the UK have issued an announcement of an
acquisition. Scotland Online has been known in genealogy circles for its
'ScotlandsPeople' service. 'FindMyPast.com' (formerly known as
'1837online.com') has been a major online genealogy company in England. Now
'Scotland Online' has acquired 'FindMyPast.com' (see
http://tinyurl.com/3bh9kn).
The merger will see Scotland Online's current online genealogy service,
ScotlandsPeople, working closely with Findmypast.com to create a dynamic
family history resource to serve millions of family history enthusiasts
worldwide.
Scotland Online recently won the tender for the 1911 England and Wales
census records, which will be available during 2009.
