Hello Shirley,
Not necessarily :-)
The GRO reference does not point to one single marriage - in fact, at
that time, there were usually eight names (four marriages) with the
same reference.
The system was changed in 1852, and from then onwards there were four
names (two marriages) with the same reference.
If you find two names in the GRO marriage index with the same
reference, it should not be assumed that they married one another!

Hello Vic
Sorry I have only just noticed your thread ~ I'm afraid I am guilty of
assuming in this particular case ~ I know David Lloyd married Elizabeth and she is
the only Elizabeth on Ancestry. All will be revealed in due time and I will
probably be proved wrong (again).
Thank you for your thoughts.
Kind regards Shirley
Hi everyone
I have been trying to send an email to Supt. Regr. Mid Powys today and it
just keeps being returned to me. I don't want him to think I am not grateful for
his email, I'm sure he will read this at some stage, so thank you very much,
I will be contacting them tomorrow.
I particularly want this marriage to be David Lloyd and Elizabeth Evans
because it stands a chance of my Great Grandfather being brought up by an Aunt of
his mother's, who died after his birth. If it is Elizabeth Jones I don't
think there will be a connection, not on this branch anyway, although I have
plenty of other Jones's (including John).
Welshpool office isn't there until tomorrow, when I'm sure everything will
become clear.
Kind regards
Shirley

==================
Dear Doug,
In fact, it's a NO. According to the 1841 census, your Thomas Evans was
*not* born in the county (Breconshire) in which he was residing in 1841.
This is consistent with his being born in Cregrina (RAD).

Dear Doug,
The 1841 census forms did not ask for any detailed birthplace information.
They merely asked whether an individual was born in the county in which he
was residing in 1841. The question only required a YES or NO answer.

=================
Dear Shirley,
As you have the GRO index reference, you can order the certificate
directly from the GRO without knowing the exact place where the ceremony
was performed. For ordering methods and details, see:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/
Currently, certificates from the GRO cost £7.00 if the full GRO reference
from the BDM indexes is supplied.
Kind regards,
John

Hello Bryn
I have just cross referenced checked on the full Marriage Index and they are
both there i.e. David Lloyd and Elizabeth Evans Apr 1838 Llanfyllin 27 119.
So it must be a transcription error.
However I will do as you suggest and get a form from the NorthWalesBMD.
Thank you very much for your assistance and thank you also all the voluntary
work you do which is greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Shirley
Hello Bryn
There seems to be a problem but I have visitors coming any minute so I can't
sort it out just at the moment.
I will write you again as soon as I can. Welshpool Office are going to look
it up for me.
Many thanks for your help.
Best wishes

Hello Lister
I ordered a marriage certificate from Welshpool for Llanfyllin. I have just
received the following email:-
Please could you state if this was a church or civil ceremony. The reference
you have provided is the GRO Index reference and will not help us locate
the correct entry. Once we have received your request we will search for the
correct entry and issue you with a certificate.
Does anyone on the list know how I can find out whether it was a Church or
Civil Ceremony please?
I have tried finding the marriage on North Wales BMD but could it only find
it on Ancestry.
Best wishes

Looking for information regarding the ancestors of Thomas Evans, b. 1800
Cregrina, Radnorshire, Wales. In 1841 and 1851 he and his family were living
in Llanddewi'r Cwm at Dollinwydd Mill. He died 9 June 1856 and is buried
with his wife at the cemetery at Llanddewi'r Cwm, the stone being just to
the right as one walks towards the main church entrance.
The 1851 census states he was b. Cregrina. Does anyone have access to the
1841 census? Looking to see if that census said he was from Cregina too.
He is the father of "Llew Bualt"- and his father (Evans) was apparently
named Hugh, as was his Grandfather (Evans). His grandfather apparently
taught music (or directed the choir) at the old church in Llandrindod at the
turn of the century (c 1800).
Regards,
Doug
Looking for information concerning the location of "Croespoil" which is
probably near Llanfaredd, Radnorshire, Wales.
I have ancestors surname Protheroe (d. 1843) and Jenkins (d. 1849) that died
there.

Doug

Dear list,
Does anyone have any knowledge of John Jones town crier of Brecon town and county in 1820. I have received a marriage bond from the NLW of John Owens born c1800 Gelligaer and in 1820 living at Tredegar Iron Works, Monmouthshire to Frances Jenkins born c 1804 Tredegar. The marriage was at Vaynor Breconshire and I cannot work out why it should be there. The bond is between and I quote......John Owens of Tredegar Iron Works in the county of Monmouthshire Pudler and John Jones of the Town and County of Brecon (Crier) are held and firmly bound to Thomas by Divine Permisssion Lord Bishop of St. David's in £400 etc etc........The above bounden John Owen and Francis Jenkins of the parish of Vaynor in the county of Brecon ....
Why would John Jones be part of the bond - would he be a relative or just the person who put up the money?
with thanks
Diana
