I am being impatient! I am hoping to have a few days in Breconshire later
in the year and will be going to the Archives in Llandrindod but I am in
desperate need of a baptism from the Aberedw parish register in order to
find out if the IGI has got it wrong (not unknown). If anyone is going to
the office and would be prepared to look at this one item please come back
to me off-list. I have full details including the precise date.
Thank you in anticipation.
Norman
Thank you Bryn ELLIS and Dick JONES for replying to my address query.

Jean,
What kind of a record are you looking for? Parochial papers for the parish, if they survived, are held by the National Library of Wales -- these are usually where paupers and their upkeep were noted. This is not online.
Since the children had the same surname, it's possible they were related but not necessarily. Your gg-grandparents would've received support from the parish for taking them in. Only a review of the parish register would reveal the whole scenario -- presumably, their births and the deaths of their parents. You could send for those certificates.
Kind regards,
Julie Preston

Subject: [POWYS] Parish pauper-- Montgomeryshire
Hello,
On the 1851 Census two children were listed with my gg grandparents. They
were listed as parish paupers.
My gg grandparents were John and Catharine Lewis living in Cefn llysuchaf,
Llanerfyl, District 3 c. #6 Waen bodr, a farmer of 10 acres. The children
were: Edward Lewis 5 and Mary Lewis 1.
Would there be a record of these children and if so where? Is there
anything on line?
Thanks.
Sincerely,

Hello.
Thanks for your replies relating to my soneJones predicament. I'm not
getting any further with the marriages. The northwales BMD comes up
with blank for Newtown search for an Ann Jones marrying a John Jones.
The only one for Welshpool is the one I have.
As a rather green amateur I am wondering if signatures, i.e.
fathers', on marriage certificates can be used for verification (by
comparison with signatures available elsewhere - parish records?
birth certificates?). The certificate I have has obviously been
copied in longhand by someone but can a copy of originals be obtained
for this purpose?
By the way I treated myself to a couple of Cassini's 1840 maps and
they have most of the names I recently quoted from the 1841 census.
They've proved extremely useful for locating various possible addresses.
Heddwch
Mike.

I have an Adaline Rose Arrowsmith but cannot find her mother or fathers
name. Family stories say that she was an illegitimate child.
Does anyone have any Arrowsmith Wheale/Weale marriages in their trees as her
mother married a few years after she was born.

I had some information on my great great grandfather joining the South
Wales
Borderers. I'm just wondering if theres any chance there are records
relating to any battles he fought in, his rank etc. I know from family
that he
move to India c 1903 with his wife and two daughters. He is on the 1901
Census
living with his wife in the Brecon Barracks. He also brought back a Zulu
shield.
I would love to know why he moved to India.

Does anyone have the baptism register for Llanddew Parish Church in Brecon,
please?
I have three children of Lewis and Margaret Jones who I think may have been
baptised there.
Morgan about 1828
Gwenllian 1830
Cicilia 1838
John another one of their children was baptised in 1835 at Plough
Congregationist Chapel in Brecon.
All the best
Heather

Mike,
I don't see how I can improve on the steps you have already taken - I have
two family lines ending in a John or Evan Jones in the early nineteenth
century in north Wales which I began to search for 20 years ago and
failed!! - therefore I sympathise.
As you clearly know, the key in this problem is to establish the names of
parents by finding the marriage. I assume that you have exhausted the
northwalesbmd site which covers Montgomeryshire, but, of course, the
proximity of the English border and possible employment across the border is
always a possibility - I eventually found a marriage of two Denbighshire
young people in Chester!
The placenames you give for Llanwyddelan are not township names - they are
probably farms. Welsh placenames are notoriously mis-spelt in registers and
censuses, and in transcriptions! Most of those you named seem OK but I
suspect that Llynsty Cerrig and Llwystybran both have 'Lluest' [summer
residence] as the first component. The tithe map and schedule [at NLW or
Llandrindod] dating from about 1840 would have details of these holdings.
Not much help - but I began with a negative note!
Bryn Ellis
Any idea when he would have left the army?

Hi everyone,
I will be very grateful if someone with records for the Trefeglwys area can
check if there is a marriage for a John Lewis of Nantmel, Radnorshire to a
Catherine about 1820/21. I don't have her surname unfortunately.

Hi,
Yes the photos I sent were of Pencoed. I live just a mile away. All of the
Edwards farms are mostly within eyesight of my home.
I still have a number of queries so am off to the National Library tomorrow
to check them out.

Lloyd

Hello
Can anyone find anything relating to John Mountford born c1801 Radnorshire,
I can't seem to locate him on the 1841 Census for Wales or England.
Are there any other sources I could try?
