Hi Anna,
I would love to come but I am in the USA. I would love to know more
about the topic (Welsh family history and Y-Chromosome DNA Analysis) that are to
be discussed. Please take some notes for us out of towner's who can't come!
Of interest in the future. My grandmother told me father that when she
was living in Wales (Aberdare) they we advertising for miner's (silver ?) to
come to Patagonia. Their Lloyd family came to the USA to the coal fields of
northeast Pennsylvania instead. Our Lloyd family immigrated to the USA in
1897.
Enjoy the meeting.
God Bless,
Janet Virginia, USA

Don't think so Kenneth as the one I'm looking for was born in the 1820s.
Thanks for your reply though.
I'm going to have to go back and dig around those censuses again !

Thanks Dixie,
If you ever come across an Anne & John ? Beynon with chn born after abt 1845
in the US censuses I'd be grateful for the information. We are working in
the dark as they don't seem to be in any of the 1851 British censuses and so
far have found no chn for them on free BMDs.
Anne's father died in 1868 so it was generally thought that they must have
been somewhere still in Wales but they don't seem to be on the British 1861
census either.
Gone into hiding somewhere ?? Maybe they had no chn --Just don't know !

Hello Dixie,
We have a line of Beynon's that we just can't find anything about. It is
possible that your Anne was a s-i-l of the the husband I'm looking for.
We have an Ann Chilton , born 1824 Nantyglo, who married a Mr Beynon abt
1845.
Think his name might have been John. but don't know anything about him.
Can't find the family in any of the censuses so thought they might have gone
to USA ????
Anne is mentioned in her father's will as "my dau, Anne Beynon ".
They lived in the same area as yours.
Delphine in Brisbane.

This is a request for any help with tracing our Williams family of
Troedyrharn, Llanddew, Breconshire.
I'd very much like to contact and share information with any other
researchers of this family or indeed any Williams families in the Brecon
area (with such common names it seems almost impossible to pick out the
individuals we are interested in from indexes etc - pooling information
would be really helpful).
In particular I have seen an archive post on this list back in 1998 from Eileen
Williams whose children are descended from Elizabeth Williams from
Troedyrharn b. ~1813 and her husband Roger Williams and would very much
like to make contact.
Two generations of our Williams family lived at Troed yr harn between
1841 and 1863.
Here are the families of interest:
Husband: Evan Williams b. 1821 d. 1899
Wife: Elizabeth Gwynne b. 1828 d. 1909
Children:
1. John Gwynne Williams, b. ~1851 Trevithe, Llanfilo, BRE {labourer,
unmarried in 1901}
2. Sarah Anne Williams, b. 1852 Llanddew, BRE
3. Emily Edith Williams, b. ~1853 Llanddew, BRE {married Thomas Lewis
Thomas, 1 child}
4. Thomas Arthur Gwynne Williams, b.1855 Llanddew, BRE d.1935 m. 1880
Mary J Edwards {occ: Railway Platelayer, brought up family in Aberdare}
5. Elizabeth J Williams, b. 1857 Llanddew, BRE
6. Evan J. Williams, b. 1858 Llanddew, BRE
7. William David Gwynne Williams, b. 7 JAN 1859 Llanddew, BRE
8. Mary Jane Williams, b. 19 MAY 1860 d. 10 JAN 1943 Llanddew, BRE
{m. 1924 Thomas Lewis Thomas, she was the 3rd sister to marry him, she
was 64, he was 72}
Evan was a farmer and/or cattle dealer. He went bankrupt in 1863 and
the family were forced to leave the farm by the bailiffs. In 1901 he
was a labourer living with his wife Elizabeth (née Gwynne) in Llanddew
with eldest son John Williams and a grandaughter Gladys Williams age 6
b. Lisvane. I have not been able to ascertain which of their children
was Gladys' parent.
Evan took over the farm from his father, also named Evan Williams
sometime between 1851 and 1861. This is Evan senior's family:
Husband: Evan Williams b. 1788 Llandeilograban, RAD d. 1851<>1861
Wife: Sarah b. ~1788 d. 1841<>1851 { née Jones according to Eileen
Williams}
Children:
1. Elizabeth Williams, b. ~1813 Llanddew, BRE {the Elizabeth
Williams who married Roger Williams of Llanddew and later Bronllys, BRE
according to Eileen Williams}
2. William Williams, b. ~1815 Llanddew, BRE
3. Mary Williams, b.~ 1817
4. John Williams, Son, c. 26 MAR 1820 Llanddew, BRE {maybe he took
over the farm after Evan was evicted since the 1871 tenant was a John
Williams born Llanddew. In which case he married Catherine Powell and
had issue born Garthbrengy. They were gone by 1881. Not sure how to
confirm this.}
5. Evan Williams, Son, c. 27 MAY 1821 Llanddew, BRE {'our Evan'}
6. David E Williams, c. 6 JUN 1825 Llanddew, BRE m. 1857 Mary
Nevill d.s.p. 17 MAY 1890 Llanelli {Professor of Welsh and Canon of St
Davids, Vicar of Llanelly}
7. Thomas Williams, c. 18 DEC 1825 Llanddew, BRE
8. Rhys Williams, c. 23 MAR 1828 Llanddew, BRE {maybe Vicar of St
Donat's with wife and son in 1881 census born 'Llanthey, BRE' ??? again how to confirm this???}
>From Bishop's Transcripts we have that Evan Williams, son of Evan
Williams and Catherine was christened 11 FEB 1788 Llandeilograban, RAD.
This information is from (i) family lore (ii) censuses (iii) Bishops
Transcripts (iv) IGI.
If anyone has any information about Williams in the Llanddew area or
Llandeilograban area or a suggested next line of enquiry I'd be very
grateful to hear from you.
Phyllis
Hello,
I'm looking for information on Anne Beynon (I've also seen it spelled
Baynham). I have her marriage record showing her father as Richard, and one
of the witnesses was Margaret Beynon, possibly her mother, maybe a sister?
She married John Presdee in 1843 in Crickhowell, and apparently then lived
in Beaufort Hill. Does anyone have any information on Anne or her parents?
Listers have previously given me records from the 1851 census for John and
Anne.
Thanks very much,
Dixie Olmstead
Iowa, USA
Hello, Dennis
I would be grateful if you could check for the burial's of my Morgan &
Celicia Jones for me if possible, please?
17 February 1847 death of Morgan Jones a shoemaker aged 81 years lived at
Libanus.
27 August 1850 death of Cecilia Jones wife of the above at Bathaga Modrydd
aged 87 years.
I have checked Brychgoed Independent Chapel MI's in Devynnock. They are not
buried there unless they are buried in an unmarked grave. I think that the
burial register must still be with the chapel only the births and baptism's
are available. One of their son's Morgan and his wife Mary are buried there
with a headstone to mark the place. Checked Llanspyddid parish register they
are not buried there also the MI's of Chapel Iltyd and Libanus without
success.
All the best and thanks

Thanks to John Ball , Alison Bryan and William Williams for all your help.
The consensus is that it is Groes Issa ( Croes Isaf) .John Ball has
suggested a location for Croes Isaf at coordinates 289364,288703 on the
1891 map found at www.oldmaps.co.uk . As this does tally with the direction
of travel of the census enumerator as indicated by the census pages both
preceding and following the page in question, I find it compelling. A big
thank you to everybody who helped.

Thanks Margaret but the dates don't tally. The Edward Morgan above , if the
census is to be believed was born in about 1825. The father we have for him
is one Thomas Morgans b abt 1800 although I am not sure how reliable that
is. The circa 1825 appears to be pretty reliable. The problem is we can find
no trace of Edward Morgan before or after the 1861 census. His daughter
Sarah who ultimately leads down to us we have been able to trace as far as
1901.

Paul,
Haven't looked at these, but given our mining ancestry thought they might
interest you.

I have found one of the families in my family tree on the 1861 census for Montgomeryshire but have had no luck deciphering the name of the house/ farm where they lived. All the other house/farm names are beyond my abilities also. Could anybody help please?
The family comprises:-
Edward Morgan : Head:Age 36: Farmer of 80 acres: Born Llanidloes
Elizabeth Morgan: Wife : 32 : Llanidloes
Plus 4 children named Elizabeth, Sarah, Ann, Evan, Jane all born Llanidloes.

My husband is researching a Morgan family from Llanidloes and we have an Edward Morgan born 1837 in Llanidloes. His parents were David Morgan and Martha Owen. His siblings were Jane, Elizabeth, David, John and Evan. Any relation?

Looking at a bit more of their tree makes it looks as if the one near Ebbw
Vale is the most likely, Shropshire and Montgomeryshire was a bit of a red
herring!

A more feasible placename would be WAUNLLWYD.
Are you referring to the part of Shropshire around Chirbury?

I wonder if anyone recognises the name WAUNLLURYD?
A friend has come across it in a marriage certificate, the family were in
part of Shropshire that it is almost surrounded by Montgomeryshire which
makes that the most likely place. The odds must be that a name has got
distorted but I can't see any beginning with WAUN in that area looking
likely.
So trying some local knowledge in case someone can see a similarity to a
real place name.

HI All,
I am taking back my WINTER/WYNTER family of Breconshire and Dyfed to early
times and need to look up Peter Bartrum’s pedigrees. Does anyone on the List
have easy access to his Pedigree Books and would be prepared to give me
information from those Pedigrees, in order that I might fill out my early
WINTER/WYNTER Tree.
Many thanks,
Hilary Williams
