Hi Kevin,
So glad you are having such a good time in Hay on Wye. I have the Francis
Kilvert's diary book, and, as you say, of great interest to people with
interests in the area of Clyro.
The Gwilliam entry struck a chord too, as I think one of my Smith descendants
married a Gwilliam.
I do hope you found whatever you were researching too.
All the best,
Maureen Jenkins

My thanks to you both of you Tony and Alison
Elizabeth married my great great grandfather EVAN MORGAN KINSEY he was the
parish clerk in Llanwnog for over 40 years born in Llanwnog 5 Jan 1805 and
died in 1891.They had a son EVAN KINSEY born 15 Feb 1838 in Caersws,
EVAN MORGAN KINSEY married again 16 July 1843 to JANE JONES born 4 Nov 1822
in Llanwnog she died 11Feb 1903 they had 3 children Mary Kinsey 29 Oct
1850,Sarah born 5 May 1858, Matilda born 6 July 1865.
Mary Kinsey married my Gr Grandfather Richard Whittall. So that is where the
Whittall line fits in.
I thought that I was the only Latter Day Saint in my line which now has over
20,000 individual people in it.So I am delighted with this news that you
provided that I have members connected to my family from the early days of
the church. It has really made a very dull Easter to an exceptional one.If
you need any other information regarding my branch don't hesitate to ask.
Thanking you once more for the lovely surprise.

Dear Angela
I live quite near St Cewydd's Church, Disserth so this afternoon I popped
down and had a look at the headstones. I'm afraid I couldn't find any
Proberts at all, but many of the headstones have become weather-worn and
unreadable.
Howey Provident Baptist Chapel was not built until the mid-1890's, but as I
was passing it anyway I had a look at the headstones. The only obit. which
may possibly be of help was the following :-
Charles Probert son of Thomas and Sarah Probert of Wernfawr in the parish of
Disserth. Died July 12 1894 aged 20 years.

Hi All, This is a temporary subscription passing the last few hours away in Wales. While I was in Clyro I read Rev.Francis Kilvert's "Journal of a Country Curate." Anyone with an interest in the area (Clyro, Hay and beyond) 1870-1879 should really read it. It may well be read by all on the list but it was news to me.My visit to Hay was excellent......I had no news on the name Cole but there was a mention in the book. I couln't find the Lovett burial in Hay but I took a few baptisms with that name down. I have one Gwilliam baptism.I couldn'tfind a Benjamin Thomas b.1808-1810 but if he had a sister Charlotte ...I took a note of her parents just in case. I'll reply fully to all tomorrow.Churchwarden in St Mary's was brilliant.Great town, great people and a great time had by all. speak soon, Kevin.

Hi, I looked at this on the 1881 census as I have no other for the Wrexham
area, only one male Driscoll in Flint and none at all in Denbigh.....

Thanks, Kevin, for taking the time. I hope you had success with what your
were looking for. We'll look forward to hearing a full report. Glad you are
enjoying your visit.
Best wishes,

Thanks for the offer Diana but I already have them on 1841 & 1851.
Would be nice to find some living descendants !

I am searching for Sarah Driscoll whose wedding witness in Wrexham 1847 was
titled Mary Maybray Driscoll. It does not appear hyphenated but any Maybrays
out there?
Hi Elysia, Alison, Dennis et al,
Morgan Parry was living at Pantyrongl, Llanidloes at the time of the 1871 Census, he is listed as a "Miner" and three of his children were "Jiggers" in a mine. Pantyrhongl is just off the road between Llanidloes and Staylittle to the north of the town and I would think that Morgan and his children would be working at the Van Lead Mine, Bryntail was probably too far away.
Richard Ashton was born in Llanidloes according to the census and was a Labourer aged eighteen. This is the only Richard, age 18 years born Llanidloes on the 1861 Census:
ASHTON Richard, h, m, 48, Lead miner, MGY Trefeglwys, Tyncwydd, /f66/p8
ASHTON Ann, w, m, 33, Miner's wife, MGY Llangurig, Tyncwydd, /f66/p8
ASHTON John, s, u, 10, -, MGY Llanidloes, Tyncwydd, /f66/p8
ASHTON Richard, s, u, 8, -, MGY Llanidloes, Tyncwydd, /f66/p8
ASHTON Mary, d, u, 5, -, MGY Llanidloes, Tyncwydd, /f66/p8
ASHTON Edward, s, u, 1, -, MGY Llanidloes, Tyncwydd, /f66/p8
I was interested to see that Tyncydd was listed next to Pantyrhongl on the 1861 Census. It could be that Richard's parents moved away and as he worked in the area he boarded with my Parry family. His father was a Lead miner (born Trefeglwys) so that points to him also working in the same industry.
Dennis, Pantyrhongl is close to the Glyn Factory.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey
Thanks Ruth,
I was at Archives here looking up Llanbadarn Fyndd records for some US
visitors, only to find they were in Latin. They relate to the old RC Church
/Monastic records tied to Abby Cwmhir perhaps??
Happy Easter,
Dennis,in Rads
Hello Delphine - no I don't think it is the same family but I do have a
William Probert aged 37 saddler in Bailey St. Breconshire on a copy of the
1851 census. If this is yours I can send you the rest of the details.
Also on the 1841 census William Probert Bailey St aged 58 saddler. Do you
want the rest of the details on this one too.
Regards
Diana
Dear Listers
I have written to Alison off-list about her two new Wills which I am very
happy to help her to decipher. I enjoy this kind of work & have become quite
good at old handwriting so I thought I would let the List know that I am happy to
help any of you who might have trouble deciphering old writing. (Just send me
a scanned version as an attachment off-list.)
I noticed too that Tony said the other day that he transcribed a PR but
stopped when the entries were in Latin. This I can help with too, if anyone should
need help. To my great regret I can't do Welsh, though!!!
Best regards, Ruth
The following indexes have been added to the North Wales BMD
database:
Machynlleth Registration District:
Civil marriages
1838 to 1918
(3490 marriages)
Until 1898, the Registrar had to be present, by law, at all marriage
ceremonies that took place in Nonconformist chapels and Roman Catholic
churches - and also, of course, at those that took place in the
Register Office! He/she recorded all these marriages in the same
Register - hence they are all described as "civil" marriages.
The parishes in Machynlleth registration district were:
Machynlleth
Penegoes
Llanfihangel Genau'r Glyn (part)
Tywyn
Llanwrin
Cemmaes
Darowen
Llanbrynmair
Many thanks to my team of volunteers for Montgomeryshire; for their work in photocopying, transcribing and
checking the above indexes; and to the staff of Machynlleth Register
Office, for their help and assistance with the project.

Hi Delphine and Diana and others
I can't help with Proberts in the area that you are asking about but if you
find that any of them came from Radnorshire then there is a chance that they
are mixed up with my lot and I have a fair bit of info on them that I will
willingly share!
Happy hunting
Angie
Thanks again to all for all the hard work on this project!

Dear all
I have uploaded 2 new wills to my blog, which may be of interest. I
would like some help please. Details of the wills are:
a) Richard Ashton, Llanidloes, 1857:
http://www.alisonbryan.com/notes/archives/000366.html
b) Edward Savage, Broidach, Trefeglwys, 1654
http://www.alisonbryan.com/notes/archives/000367.html
Firstly, does anyone see any connection to these people from existing
Ashton research / trees?
Secondly, as usual I'm having problems with transcription and I would
appreciate any assistance. The original documents are linked via my
blog posts.
The Ashton will is shorter of the two, and easier ... yet I have gaps.
The Savage one is a different animal, both in terms of length and
writing / English used. It is 1654 ... eek!
As always, any help would be gratefully received.
Many thanks, Alison
