Does anybody on this list know what was the role and function of the Coroner
of Eastern Mongomeryshire in the 16th and 17th centuries ?
In W.A.Griffiths (1948) "Richard Griffiths of County Montgomery, gent., Mr
Case's Scholar", The Mongomeryshire Collections, Vol L, Part II, pgs 151-167
it states that:
[T]he Coronership of the Eastern half of the County was held by the
Glenhavren and Trederwen House family and their kinsmen for about 150 years.
Besides Richard Griffiths of Glenhavren, who died in 1587, there were
Randolph Parry of Llanerchbrochwel, Coroner 1613-1624; Morris Lloyd, Coroner
1651-1676; John Vaughan of Trederwen Hall, Coroner 1649-1665; Archur Vaughan
of trederwen Hall, Coroner 1665-1678; John Griffiths of Glanhavren, Coroner
1678-1711, followed by Thomas Rogers of Burgedin, Coroner 1711 until his
death in 1728. Then the appointmentof Lumley Williams of Ystum Colwyn broke
the sequence of family interests.
However, the author does not explain what the Coronership of the Eastern
half of the County of Montgomeryshire entailed.
Elsewhere I have seen the statement:
The office of coroner dates back to the central middle ages, but very few
early records survive. Indeed, no records survive at all for Breconshire,
and the Radnorshire and Montgomeryshire coroners' records commence in the
middle of the nineteenth century. After 1888 he was appointed by the County
Council.
Can anybody enlighten me ?
thanks

I am searching for information on the family of
Morgan Evans of Trefeglwys. He died in about 1725.
His three sons were Evan, John and Joseph. He had
three daughters as well.
Thanks,
Tom Evans

Hello Phillip
Have you tried the on-line marriage bonds on the NLW website? There are
several Baskervilles in parishes not too far from Crickhowell in BRE & RAD. You
could then try searching the BTs of those parishes at your LDS library. You are
lucky to be researching an unusual name.
You could ask the NLW to check their Wills index - or perhaps a lister who
lives near Aberystwyth might do that for you. Wills can be very helpful.
Good luck, Ruth
Hi Philip,
I have seen you on this hunt before I think. There is a Mrs Baskerville lady
at the History Dept (?) at the University in Aberystwyth who lectures on Welsh
history/Patagonia/ Thomas Jones of Radnorshire, etc. Perhaps she may be able
to help you? Try them at "holi(a)llgc.org.uk" , or www.llgc.org.uk", or Tel
01970 623800.
The Baskervilles of Clyro are mentioned in books on Radnorshire, Kilvert, and
the Hay area, where the many bookshops may also help. Herefordshire records
will also be useful? Are they not linked to Wiltshire? And of Norman/French
origin 1066?
There are very many listed on the LDS Family Search, at
"www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/
Best wishes,
Dennis Cleaton, Rads, Powys
Hello All,
I have my ancestor Thomas Baskerville's birth in 1771 at Crickhowell,
Brecon, Wales but cannot find any other information such as who his parents
were. Can anyone offer any ideas as to how I might get over or around this
brick wall other than making a trip to my father's homeland which is a long
way from here. I have tried the LDS website, that's how I got this far.
Thank you
Phillip M Baskerville
Hi Ken

Hi Everyone
It's been a while since I last updated everyone on the website and there has
also been a new development that I would like to share with you.
The website currently houses photographs and/or information for 1627 schools
and there are 292 articles posted on the forum also connected to individual
schools.
As I am almost certain that everyone of you reading this email attended at
least one school, if it was one in the UK could I ask you to have a quick
look to see if it is listed and if not please drop me a line with the
details.
If your school is mentioned than I would appreciate you contacting me with
anything that you can recall from your time there, even if it is only the
name of one teacher. Anything no matter how small can often help to jog
someone else's memory.
The new development that I have to share with you all is fantastic, well I
think so anyway :-)
I have been contacted by a company called Tempus Publishing
(www.tempus-publishing.com ), who produce books on a wide range of
historical subjects, to write books on the history of various individual
schools in the UK.
So if anyone has any ideas for a school that may be interested in taking
part or would like to write one of their own for that matter, then please
contact me.
I am also looking for anyone with a past connection to Llandaff Cathedral
School to contact me asap.
Kind Regards
Kim

Found an ALLTMAWR but in county of Brecknock. South-west of Aberdewr
station.
From 1910 Kelly's directory (archivecdbooks disk), it does however show four
residents:
James Thomas Meirig, Chapel House.
Evans David, farmer, Chapel Farm.
Jones Thomas, farmer, Alltmawrissa.
Powell Thomas, farmer, Alltmawrucha.
Children attended school at Llandewi-y-cwm.
Multimap.co.uk shows it as being in Powys.
Jo Rain & mist in Shropshire.
Yes, please pass my emails on to anyone who is interested. My Cleatons were
in Llanidloes area since 1573.....I never knew this until recent times! The
book " Second Stages in Welsh Ancestry" by John and Sheila Rowlands has much info
re names, etc, in MGY. Have you got the Powys FHS 1851 cd, MGS 1891, and the
UK LDS 1881? Plus the Bill Barker cd for MGY Families? All good stuff really.
Best wishes,
Dennis, in Radnorshire, Powys
Hi Venita,
I loved your pictures and written explanations of the Museum of Welsh Life,
WONDERFUL!
I hope someday I can make a trip over to your side of the big pond and visit
there myself. Until then I enjoy all the pictures POWYS folks post.
Shari, Texas, U.S.A.
In the 1841 Census of Radnorshire, The Hundred of Colwyn there is a John
Lloyd listed as aged 15 born at Church House - I know that there is a Church
House in the Llanfaredd area. The record is folio 6, page 6 of the Llanfaredd
records.
Eric.
I am researching Mary Davies born 10.1.1866 in Brymauw, Crickhowell (my gt
grandmother)
Her parents were Lewis Davies who died before 1881 and Esther Pri(t)chard
born c 1831 in Carmarthen.
Esther's father was William Pri(t)chard born c1808 in Llangunider,
Brecknock.
In the 1881 census Esther(50yrs) is a widow and she and her daughter Mary
(14yrs) are living with Esther's father William at 3 Rock Tor, Llanelly,
Brecon.
I would be very grateful if somebody could check the 1871 census for me
please.
With many thanks.

Tony,
The LDS have microfilmed the register of Christenings 1762-1837 held by the
PRO. I know of no transcriptions of the registers.
National Library of Wales holds the register of Christenings 1762-1876,
Marr. 1838-48 and Burials 1800-95.

I wonder whether anyone can find a baptism.for my gr.gr.grandfather JOHN LLOYD.
>From the certificate of his marriage to ANN MORGAN at LLANFAREDD in1844, I know that his father was SEPTIMUS LLOYD. Unfortunately his age is only given as "full age".
On the 1851 census for Cwm Sych, Rhulen, he gave his age as 31 and his birthplace LLANFAREDD. This would mean an approximate birthdate of 1820 .
It is possible that his mother's name was ANN (DAVIES).
I should be most grateful for any help.
Sheila
Many thanks for your kind words Elysia,
Five of the dead crew of Sondra Kay are interred at the US War Cemetery at
Cambridge, UK, and are listed on your US website for that -
(www.abmc.gov/detailunit.asp). We assume the other five were returned to the families in the US at
later dates, this data does not seem to be available.
I have all the crew names and their 1943 home addresses, with NOK then. I
was also able to contact the nephew of the dead pilot in Tn, USA, via the US 8th
Air Force web notice board about 18 months ago, and we are still in touch by
email, etc. He is very pleased with our efforts here. It has been in my mind
to do all this for the very many years I have been away from Wales, as I
remember the crash in 1943 when I was a local boy of ten.
The Memorial Service and local parade were held on 16th Sept last, and we
were all pleased to be able to honour those ten brave young men, it was also very
sad in that way.We had the Assistant Air Attache USAF from the US Embassy
with us that day, and many local Veterans and Air and Army cadets, that pleased
us very much.
There is a UK 388th BG USAAF Assn. website for that Group, at
"www.388thbg.org/ and in the USA .
TV and radio in Wales covered it all for me, but I still await the Video
copies, etc. Some may still be on the BBC Wales and HTV Archive websites for
16-09-03.
Very best wishes to you all,
Dennis Cleaton, Radnorshire, Powys, UK.
(RADNOR Pa, USA, was founded by Quakers from here)
Hi Lizzie,
Did we not give you the 1851, and 1861?, and 1881 for most of these at
Bont/and Trefeglwys?? Sorry I have no 1841 data for those area's. Some of the Mgy
BT's are listed on the CD by Bill Barker "Montgomeryshire Families 1675-1825".
Try "billbarker(a)compuserve.com" for details.
Kind regards again,
Dennis Cleaton, Rads, Powys
