William BEVAN (1832-?1929) lived in the Llanfaes part of Brecon town and in
C19th census entries was listed as a stone mason. I've recently been told
that he owned quarries near Heolfanog. My 11/4 in to 1 mile Ordnance Survey
map locates Heolfanog a few miles south of Brecon but shows no quarries.
Can anyone please confirm whether or not there are / were quarries near
Heolfanog and how I might obtain information about ownership, mineral
rights, quarrying activities at Heolfanog or by William Bevan (late C19th &
early C20th)?
Thanks,
Ridge,
in Ottawa, Canada
Dear Tom,
I only research the area north of there, but I am forwarding your message
to the POWYS mailing list to see if someone there can help you.

I too received a virus attached to a message from Pam Griffiths. Fortunately
Norton anti-virus jumped on it right away and the file was deleted. If Pam
would like to contact me again (once she has got rid of the virus) I would be
pleased to hear from her.

Would anyone know where in the USA I might purchase a Welsh Flag?
Thanks,
Tom Powell in New Hampshire (USA)
Hi,
I'm hoping that someone that is familiar with the area around Llanelly,
Breconshire can help me pin down where the private school in Bwilth
(Builth?), Breconshire might be and also where the Bethania Congregational
Church might be or if defunct the area it might have been in. In a book "The
Welsh in Minnesota" there is this information about my grandfather, Rev.
William Powell: I realize that both may have been gone long ago but maybe
some information about them might still exist.
254 THE WELSH IN MINNESOTA.
POWELL, REV. WM. Born at a farm called Hafod-y-Pwll, Llanelli, Breconshire,
Wales, May 11, 1834. Received but limited instruction in the private school
of Bwilth, Breconshire. Began preaching about 1855 in Bethania Congregational
church, Llanelli
Thanks for any help given.
Tom Powell in New Hampshire (USA)
Thanks for letting me know. I have sorted it now, but it was a present from
some kind soul!!
Pam

Do you live near an Australian Government Bookshop? Theres one in Sydney, in
the suburb of Parramatta. They sell the Welsh flags, but the ones they have
on display are only the hand held types.

I am trying to find out more information on my GGGGrandfather John Wilkins.
He was born in1819/20 and died 23/9/1892 he married Mary Williams born
1817 died 24/2/1893. They are both buried in St Martins Churchyard in
Caerphilly Wales. They lived in 13 St Fagan Street Caerphilly at some time.
Any help would be appreciated.
I am looking for any historical information on the Wilkins family of Brecon
Old Bank fame. Especially John Wilkins II who ws born abt 1743. He
controlled the iron industry that the family was involved in in the 19th
Century. Any information about the family would be appreciated.

Hello Janet
I am trying to research my Morgan Jones of Defnog and Maria Price who were
married at Llandeilo'r Fan parish church on 15th December 1815.
Maria was baptised I think 15th February 1796.She may be the daughter of
Rees Price
Do you have these parish records at all?
Regards Heather in Yorkshire
Hello Heather,
To be able to access these records yourself, you can do so by ordering
whichever of these two films you feel most appropriate thru your local
LDS Family History Center. The films are $3.75 a piece to rent them for
use at the local FHC for 30-60 days. You are able to use their equipment
and if you strike GOLD, you can search further back and have an idea of
what you're looking for. Here are the related film numbers:

I have seen some recent posts of Powells in Llanddewi'r-Cwm and
Llansantfraid, etc. I do not have all my info in front of me on my wife's
Powell family, but I am assuming the Llan..... town names are near one
another (?). I apologize for any missplellings.
We have a James POWELL b:1813 marreid to Ann b:1811.
They had William and Walter Thomas.
Walter Thomas POWELL resided at Cefnbedw Farm (Beguildy Felindre),
Radnorshire and had daughter who married JACKSON, a son who had a J.H.
POWELL, a grandaughter Rita GARNHAM, a grandson W.E. JONES b: Skyborry Green,
and a niece Mrs. Lloyd BRIDGESTRUT (kinda piecemeal, but that's all I have).
William POWELL b:1848 Hay, Radnorshire married Margaret BEBB. He was
gamekeeper at Lord Halifax Estate (I do not know where that is). Many of
their children were born in Perthy Ellesmere, Salop. Mabel POWELL born Fridd
Llanfechain. Miriam POWELL lived at Melynioh, died Gwern-y-cil Meifod and
buried Llansantffraid Churchyard....she was married to James WOOLEY. Maude
Alyce b: Cefncoeh near Oswesoay. James Francis POWELL joined Lhropshire
Jeomanry, lived at Fridd Llansantffraid, adn was foreman and gamekeeper to
Colonel J.R. Kynaston of Ellesmere.
Please let me know if you have any family connections or can clarify the
relationships of these towns to one another.

Hello Eric,
I only have the index for 1851 so it doesn't tell you
all the details but if this is yours it will tell you
where to look for full details.
Radnorshire 1851 census index
The hundred of Knighton HO107/2493
Knighton Parish
John GRIFFITH age 15 born. Bishops Castle,
Shropshire. Folio 112
If you think he's yours I will have a look to see if I
can find anyone else at the same address if you let me
know.

Hi everyone,
I wonder if anyone could do an 1851 census lookup for me.
I would like to find John GRIFFITHS whose age would be 14 at that time and
he would probably be in the Knighton area.
In 1841 I have him at Alms House Street ...Parish of Knighton and in 1861 he
was at Russell Place Knighton.
Any information from 1851 would be wonderful.
Thanks for any help.
Regards,
Eric.
