I wonder if anyone on the list can help me.
According to a report in The Brecon and Radnor Express dated 12th July 1906 County Councillor T Jones Parry was buried at Llanelly Parish Church, Clydach in the same grave as his parents (William Parry, wife at present unknown). The report states that after a service at the Ebanezer Chapel in Clydach he was "carried on the shoulders of relays of men to the historic church on the hill". I assumed that the church in question was St Elli, which is situated in Llanelly, NE of Clydach and obtained the monumental inscriptions for that churchyard. However the grave is not recorded. Looking at a road map I now see that there is a village of Llanelly Hill a little to the south of Clydach and on a very old OS map a number of churches or chapels are recorded.
Is anyone able to tell me if any of these chapels could be classed as the Parish Church, and if they have graveyards? If so have the MIs been recorded? If all else fails I will have to investigate on my next visit to Wales but that is not likely to be in the near future.
Norman
Hi Pat,
If you get any off-list replies to your question I would appreciate your
forwarding them to me. I also need to know how to make it useful.
Thank you,

Hello Powys,
I wonder whether anyone can advise me about the likelihood of my
GG-Grandmother Ann Hamer being the daughter of John and Mary Bowen. On the
marriage certificate her father is described as John Owens and on the birth
certificate of her daughter Mary she is described as Ann Hamer 'formerly
Owens'. I know that these both mean ap Owen but once referred to as Bowen
did people easily change back to Owens?
Ann's age and birthplace on the census records varied:
1841 age 30 birthplace in this county [Montgomeryshire] yes
1851 age 43 birthplace Tregynon
1861 age 55 birthplace unknown
1871 age 64 birthplace Llanfair Montgomeryshire
1881 age 75 birthplace Llanllwchaiarn, Monts
1891 age 85 birthplace Llanfair Caereinion
Died February 1st 1901 aged 96 [death certificate]
I have looked at the LDS pages for Ann John and at BT films for
Llanllwchaiarn, Tregynon and Llanfair Caereinion and the daughter of John
and Mary Bowen is the only possibility that I found. Baptized May 1806 with
one brother John baptized in 1804.
Any suggestions will be welcome.
Thanks,
Mary
Can some one explain how this site is used? I am a bit confused by it. What
should I put in to find something...anything?

Morning All,
I have been reading with interest the mail regarding NLW, now as a novice, I
assume this is the National Library of Wales?
Try as I might, I can't seem to find the online database of marriage bonds,
etc.
Would sks point me in the right direction please?
Tia.

Dear List;
In 1806 Magdalene JAMES of Llangenny gave birth to Charlotte MEREDITH, a
'base child' whose father was Thomas MEREDITH of Brecon.
I have (with help) traced Thomas MEREDITH's ancestry but still have found
nothing about that of Magdalene JAMES.
Is there anyone who knows anything about Magdalene JAMES of Llangenny?
Thank you,
Bob Wilson

Dear Powys & MGY lists,
While perusing the NLW online databases of Marriage Bonds and Affadavits, I
noticed one in particular that I've seen the marriage entry for in the
Bishop's Transcripts for the parish of Llandinam, MGY. I've always wondered
whether this Rees DAVIES could be "mine" -- there are no following entries
for baptisms of children of this couple in Llandinam or surrounds. It's
possible there may more details included in the bond and affadavit.
Is there anyone planning a trip to NLW who would be willing to obtain copies
of these documents for me? I would, of course, reimburse you for your
trouble and costs of copying and air postage. The Manuscripts & Records
Dept. would be the place to order the copies from, using the reference
numbers below:
Marriage Bond (B) and Affadavit (A) held at NLW -- #A,B. 20/35
DAVIES, Rees, yeoman, Llandinam, MGY. 1785, Apr 13. At Ll. Sarah Evans. A,B.
20/35.
Thanks and best regards,

And does any lister know where the parish of Garthbeibio is I can't see

===================
Dear John,
To add a little to Dawn Perry-Taft and Julie Preston's excellent
answers, according to Davies (1967), Garthbeibio is a parish in the
county of Montgomeryshire, located at grid reference SH9812 on Ordnance
Survey Landranger map (sheet 125). The parish is south-west of Llanwddyn
and north-west of Llangadfan. The parish church (dedicated to St
Tydecho) is situated at grid reference SH 985118 in the village of Foel
(Salter 1991).
Visit the Streetmaps website at www.streetmap.co.uk and select the
Landranger grid option. Entering SH985118 into the search field will
call up a detailed map with the chosen location identified with an
orange arrow. Unfortunately, the name Garthbeibio is not shown because
parish names are not marked on modern maps.

Hi, dear listers,
To all who offered advice on the above - many thanks. I am such an ignoramus
about the workings of computers that the idea of cookies & deleting files
scares me, but I will have to learn about these things. To Siani I can say,
the on-line material at NLW is definitely worth getting into. I find both
the marriage bond info & the "minor schedules" very useful indeed. Have
found loads of info in them.
Thanks again, Ruth
Hello:
Read your posting regarding Jones Spreadsheet. I have an Ellen Jones in my
tree that married a Thomas Hughes, Farm Labourer from Anglesey. Would very
much like any information regarding Ellen Hughes, nee Jones. This is my
great-grandmother and I have nothing on my tree regarding her, other than the
fact that she married my great-grandfather and they lived in Anglesey. For a
time I believe they were in Bryngwran. Please any information you might have
on this would be greatly appreciated. I am at my wits end researching my
Hughes, Jones, and Roberts...so any tidbit of information would be helpful to
jump-start my research again.
Regards,
Linda
<< Re: NLW on-line searches >>
While ridding one's self of cookies isn't such a bad idea (old stale cookies
tend to generate, er, 'bugs') there is another way that isn't so drastic,
methinks.
Since I run Macintosh OS and find, too, I sometimes find I get an older page
when I want a 'newer' one from the same site, the proble/solution isn't
specific to Windows.
There are 2 other solutions: one is to click the 'reload' or 'refresh' button
on your toolbar. That forces the browser to go the the page anew and NOT just
reload the most recent one in your hard drive's cache.
The other is to change a setting in your preferences (usually in the Edit
menu) that forces the browser to ALWAYS RELOAD the page anew. This really
slows down your browsing if you go back and forth from page to page alot. It
is really only necessary if the page contents are likely to be changing a lot
in real time (such as auctions or stock trading) .
I usuallyty have my settings to reuse whatever is in cache when browing, say,
FamilySearch, unless I know I have just requested a new lookup -- THEN I do
want a new page.
I haven't ever tried NLW -- didn't really know what was available online. I
suppose I should pay them a visit, yn wir?

John,
"Parish Registers of Wales" indicates the original parish register (held at
NLW, Aberystwyth, with a microfilm copy held at the Powys County Archives,
Llandrindod) for Llangadfan includes "Banns 1823-1950). I may be wrong, but
I don't believe the banns would include parents' names -- merely the names
of the bride and groom and whether they were "of this parish" or would name
the other parish if one was from away.
For 1841, your best course would be to simply order the marriage certificate
from the Superintendent Registrar's Office at Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.
This will provide you with the residence of bride and groom at the time of
the marriage, as well as their fathers' names and occupations. You don't
need the GRO index numbers to order the certificate from the Supt.
Registrar's office. Address and details can be found on the GENUKI pages
under "Civil Registration".
The parish of Garthbeibio is situated 1-2 miles northwest of Llangadfan, 10
miles northwest of Llanfair Caereinion, and approx. 10 miles west of
Meifod -- about 5 miles from the border with Merionethshire.

Julie Preston
