Hi Listers,
My name is Paul EGGLETON and I was born and bred in Surrey before travelling the world and living in different countries. For the past 10 years I have lived in Los Angeles with my wife and 2 boys. I have studied genealogy seriously for about three years and recently started seeking my wife's ancestry as well. I belong to many lists.
Per the 1881 census and a birth cert. I have discovered that my wife's ggg grandmother was born 1820/1821 in Beaumaris, Anglesey. She married Henry KNIGHT in Worcestershire before moving to London. Her maiden name was Harriet JONES. There is but one of this name born in Beaumaris around that time per the IGI - Jan 28, 1821. Her parents were Thomas JONES andd Mary ROBERTS, per the IGI married Aug 6, 1819. Trying to go further without corroboration and of course with those common names would be foolhardy, so I am asking for help. Firstly does anyone have access to the parish records for that timescale and could confirm - add to the info I have. Secondly, anyone else looking for these names in Beaumaris?
Thanks in advance
Paul
Tricia,
Did you ever get an answer to this question.
Let me know.

Dear All,
Sheila's generosity certainly rubs off on her friends! I received an
unexpected Christmas present in the post on Saturday. It was " Hills and
Sunny Pastures- Life in Erwood and it's surrounding Parishes". It was
courtesy of my new found Jones cousin Keith and wife Eirwen of Powys
FHS.
Family wise we have been through a bad patch this year and to receive
this was a real boost. Although I hadn't visited Erwood or Crickadarn
since a child, about 1956, with my father Allen and his brother Price
Jones. Contents of the book strangely brought the area that I visited
then back to life!
I was manning the Gwent FHS helpdesk at Porthcawl this summer ( with
others) and in my break visited the Powys FHS stall, as I usually do. I
was perusing the contents of the desk looking for new fiche, booklets,
etc. I asked the female assistant if there was anything new on the
Crickadarn area and she asked what was my interest. Trying not to look
embarrassed I answered " William Jones, Pool Hall, Crickadarn, born
Maesmynis about 1780", thinking " She must think I'm mad!" To my
amazement she said " William was married 3 times.... which marriage?"
and rattled off all this information that completely floored me! Eirwen
then told me that her husband was my cousin and that started an exchange
of information that opened up lots of new names besides Jones's,
Powells, Hughes, Williams, Bevans, Price, Bufton, Saunders, etc.
I had completed a lot of research on the families and was planning a
trip to the Erwood and Crickadarn area in the summer, but due to the
foot and mouth epidemic I realised that would be the last think they
would want!
Thanks to Eirwen, Mike and Ronica Hall, Alison Skipper who have given me
invaluable advice to further my research.

I am going to share with you something that happened to me yesterday,
Christmas Eve.
When I received my mail there was a large brown envelope there and I noticed
that the lettering in the address was that of Mrs. Sheila Leitch, Breconshire
Librarian of the Powys Family History Society. While I have never met
Sheila, we have corresponded and talked on the telephone before.
Inside the envelope were four sheets of paper. The first sheet was a copy of
the title page for the book "A HISTORY OF THE MANSIONS AND MANORS OF
HEREFORDSHIRE," by the Rev. Charles J. Robinson, then two pages of text and
the last page was a copy of a map. The text was in regard to two areas,
Little Cowarne and Much Cowarne. In the two pages of text, there was mention
of nine surnames that I recognized. From these nine names, I have six
marriages and three blood relationships in my database. There is mention of
two specific men in the text that are in my database. The names of two
family members that were mentioned were married and they are my 14th great
grand parents. The text on these two pages concerned mansions or manors that
had been owned by families connected with these names.
On the page with the map, Sheila had highlighted two places for me. I then
looked at the map through a magnifying glass and found an additional fourteen
places of interest to me where my ancestors had once been.
The information that Sheila sent to me certainly made a wonderful Christmas
present.
I do not post often to this list due to most of my research is in medieval
time periods, but I wanted to share with you the deeds of a woman who has
been very kind to me. Also, there are some of you who know Sheila personally.
You can be sure I will thank her.
Thank you for your courtesies.

Hi Ruth, Ray et al,
There are three of us! Its a lovely morning here, bright and sunny.
It looks as if Roger has been doing some excellent detective work on the
Rhayader area although it looks as if this one will have to remain a
mystery.
The goose is in the oven, everthing is under control so I am just relaxing
for five minutes!
My best wishes to everyone for a Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey

Hi Listers
I am passing on a message from Roger Scott Lewis, who came across a technical
hitch when trying to send it directly to the list. His email address is
cousinroger(a)hotmail.com
His message reads:
I don't know how many people have "clicked" to this yet but I have found that
there is a small portion of the 1851 census for Rhayader that is missing. It
is the part that should have covered the area variously known as Maesbach or
Little Maes; was also known as Castle Row/Road and at one point Morgan's
Road. If you have people there in 1851 as I do you are not going to find them.
I have checked the Mormon microfilm copy, the NLW copy and lastly the Family
Records Centre in London, all of which should be the same anyway and none of
them show this area. Whether this place was not enumerated or whether it
was but the papers were not collected or lost is not known.
End of message.
I expect that most of you won't be logging on today so instead of a Merry
Christmas, I'll wish you all a very Happy 2002!!!
Ruth
I'm trying to contact an old friend who is also a distant relative, in
order to get some info on his side of the family for my family tree.
I have a 1997 basic edition of UK info disk, but unfortunately it
doesn't do searches where a christian and surname is known.
I would appreciate a look-up of the name Bleddyn Harris, whose location
is likely to be Yorkshire, from anyone who has a more advanced version
of the program.
Thanks in anticipation,
Gwyn Williams
