Hi All,
I am researching the family of William WILLIAMS and Margaret PARRY.
William WILLIAMS born about 1800 Clynnog, Caernarfon, Wales, died before 1881,
married Margaret PARRY born about 1808 Beaumaris, Anglesey.
Their family:
William b 1827 Llandysilio married ? WILSON, died in about 1850 in Liverpool, leaving a
son William WILLIAMS, who returned to Wales and was brought up by the grandparents.
John b 1833 Llanfaes
Emma b 1836 b Llandysilio
Mary b 1838 b Llangaffo
Jane b 1840 Llangaffo
Ann b 1843 Llangaffo married John DUTTON.
1881 Census lists Margaret WILLIAMS as widow residing at Plas, Llangaffo, Anglesey.
Would love to hear from anyone researching this family or with knowledge of the family.
Thank you in advance

Hi Dave,
Pandy is as you say just North of Abergavenny. No Churches or Chapels
recorded in the 1851 Religious Census. The nearest Church is at:-
Llanfihangel Crucorney about 4 miles away.
This will come under the Gwent Record Office and the Gwent FHS at
http://welcome.to/Gwent.FHS
Hope this helps.
Lloyd

Hello
Tell me more about the PARRY -L list
I have Parry on both sides of my family, which can get quite confusing.
1. Parry from Disserth/ Llanreadr, 1850+ and 2. Parry from Talybont
1835+
I do not know a great deal of them at present, but am ready to start
looking.

Dear Dave,
Please may I put the record straight regarding churches in the diocese of
St Asaph.
St Asaph is one of 6 dioceses that go to make up the Church in Wales, which
in turn is part of the
Anglican Communion. Anglicans in Wales belong to the Church in Wales and
have No connection
with the Church of England. Having got that off my chest happy hunting,
and a Happy St David's Day
from a wet and windy Wales.

Dave: I live near the Welsh borders and if there is something specific to
check out I could do that for you, as long as you aren't in too much of a
hurry. We live just off the Abergavenny Road in Madley, Herefordshire. There
is a Pandy Inn, very quaint, old, near us. Interesting area, Another Inn
near Pandy has a huge beam where the legend is the Hanging Judge Jeffreys
used to "swing" people he tried. ooohh..Betty Telford
Good evening from Sarajevo!!!
Re strays.
The new site listed below Recyclegen, has numerous strays listed,
prisons, institutions, odd lodgings etc, the site has a slightly
different approach to genealogy,.
I would just like to thank all those who have taken the time to visit
our new website, Recyclegen. It has been over the past 24 hours that we
have arrived at our first 1000!!!! hits, and my wife and I are
overjoyed. The support has been tremendous, we hope now that as more
of you know of the site, even more will recycle their own
genealogical information , so that others may reap the benefits of the
research, both helping to keep your own disk clean, while helping
others.
As for our number one site, that of Cardiff's son, Peerless Jimmy
Driscoll boxer and legend, we continue to update and place more
genealogical treats onto the site. From today you can access the site
by using the new url , listed below, giving Jim his own niche on the
world wide web. Please update your bookmarks, as the old url will only
be operational for a day or so.
Thank you all.

Good Monday evening.
Thank you for the thoughtfulness of your reply. I have the Bishop's
Transcripts microfilm on order from the LDS. If I come up empty, I would like
to contact you.
Incidentally, a lister sent me note yesterday informing me the village was in
the Diocese of Bangor.

The usual definition of Strays is those persons baptised, married,
buried, found in an obituary (and sometimes, on a census, etc)
outside the county (not parish) of their birth. Record the details
carefully for surnames & placenames (BLOCK CAPITALS), county of
origin, where the event took place, newspaper title, full date &
page number, parish register, BT, gravestone (identify churchyard),
etc.
The Federation of Family History Societies operates a 'clearing
house' for strays which are sorted & sent to the appropriate FHS.
Additionally, a National Index is produced on fiche which is sent on
request to societies. Individuals may purchase reasonably priced
copies of this.
There is an up-to-date list of surnames held in the Powys FHS Strays
Index at:
http://www.kc3ltd.co.uk/~micronic/pstrays.htm
The strays index is a rapidly growing resource and currently
contains in excess of 4800 entries.
The Strays Co-ordinator's contact details and an explanation of
Strays is available at:
http://www.kc3ltd.co.uk/~micronic/cronicl.htm

Elspeth, a stray is someone who was born in one place and shows up in another on
the census, i.e. my g-grandfather, born in Llanwrin, resident in Talyllyn in

Dear List Members
I am a very new subscriber to this List and would like to offer a
contribution on this topic.
Parcia and Plas Brereton are in the Parish of Llanfair-is-gaer (not
Llanbeblig), between Caernarfon and Y Felinheli (Port Dinorwig).
The cemetery at Llanfair-is-gaer lies on the shore of the Menai Straits
close by the Plas Menai National Outdoor Pursuits Centre at the western end
of the new bypass, A487. The OS map reference is 23/5066.
There are a number of memorials to Turners buried there. The most relevant
appears to be:
"To the memory of Joseph son of WILLIAM TURNER Parkia Esq by JANE his wife
who died the 20th September 1824 aged 18 years. Also the above named WILLIAM
TURNER of Parkia Esq who died the 7th of November 1853 aged 87 years. Also
of JANE TURNER wife of the above named WILLIAM TURNER who died on the --- of
November 1864 aged 90 years"
In the 1851 census these people were living at Parciau Uchaf:
William Turner Head Marr age 85 Land Proprietor born Slathwaite LAN
Jane Turner Wife Marr age 75 born Co Wicklow, Ireland
At Plas Brereton there were Thomas & Martha Turner and four children.
This information is available in the valuable range of transcriptions of
memorial inscriptions and 1851 census returns for selected parishes
published by CHT Gwynedd. Look at their website
www.gwynedd.fsbusiness.co.uk/
I have Jones ancestors who lived at Parcia and who are buried in the
cemetery.

Mike,
Could you give us a little more detail, Please. Sounds like this list
could help a lot of people.
Thank you,

I'm new to this list and you've all been great at helping.
I'm trying to trace my Jones families (3 different lines) and wondered
if they might be related somewhere. Three of my Jones came from Wales.
and all ended up in Utica, NY between 1835 - 1882.
Here's what I have:
Hugh R Jones b. c. 1835 Wales (emigrated between 1835-1867)
His wife Ellen Jones (a different Jones) b. Aug 1840 Wales
(emigrated at age 11 in 1850)
They probably came at different times and probably married in Utica.
Their children were all born in Utica, NY between 1867 - 1881
Hugh R Jones and Ellen Jones children are:
Jane Ann, John F, William, Sam, George P, Catherine E (Kate),
Margarete E (Etta) Note: John F, and William were carpenters.
Jane Ann Jones (Hugh R/Ellens dau) m. Owen William Jones b.Sept 1862
(who emigrated from Anglesey in 1882, a different Jones line)
Their children were all born in Utica between 1887 and 1907.
They are William Hugh Jones, Gladier Alwin Jones, Margaret Jones,
Gladys Jones, Jane Jones, Catherine RJones, Corine E Jones,
Sarah Jones, Margaret Jones and Floyd Jones.
Note: William Hugh Jones was also a carpenter.
These 3rd cousins are related to either Ellen, Hugh, or Owen's siblings.
They all lived in the San Francisco Bay Area around 1920-1930's when
the family reunions held.
The girls who are not sisters were 3rd cousins to William Hugh Jones.
Their names are Alice Jones Sargent, Florence Jones Warham,
and Margaret Jones. Their fathers/grandfathers came to Calif during the
gold rush of 49.
I'm new to this, could anyone tell me where to get the census for Wales?
I have not a
clue yet where Ellen or Hugh were from in Wales. The emigration dates
and the
birthdates is probably correct. If anyone can point me in a good
direction, I'm
open for suggestions.
Thanks for any help you might be able to provide. I realize this is a
big subject with not a
lot of leads so far.
