1861-62.
Thanking you in anticipation, regards, Margaret.

in the mean time I thought I would look in IGI for the birth of Jane Parry

Jane Parry bapt to Elizabeth/ John Parry 23 Nov 1834 in Bodewryd, which is
just outside Amlwch. This fits in with her being 16 years in the 1851 census
and also fits the Elizabeth Prichard / John Parry marriage in 1833 which I
have already given you. So no further forward but possibly a bit more
confirmation. Could you let me know what searces you have done for this
marriage already?
From our own experience it is most frustrating when you can't find a
marriage. We also have one on Anglesey, with details of the family in three
censuses, on gravestones and family knowledge and we still can't find the
marriage even considering a runaway marriage to Liverpool or mainland Wales.
As you say you need patience in this game!

Shirley you are an angel........thank you for at least confirming the marriage
and daughter of Elizabeth, Jane...I had not thought of going thru that
route....at least it has confirmed Elizabeth's maiden name......thank you so
much....yes very strange that we can not find her marriage to David
Davies.....it is even more difficult being so far away.
The research I have done so far only goes as far as Llangefni Records office
looking under the different names we came up with....with no luck...and the
census...
I have recently found my local FH centre (pretty close by) and as I have never
been to one before I am looking forward to going and discovering what they
have.....and doing some of my own research...
If you have any tips or hints about following up with Elizabeth and David's
marriage, pls let me know.....the reason I am keen to follow up is an attempt
to discover David's father's name.....a fellow researcher and I are trying to
link trees.......
I can now look for Elizabeth Pritchard to David Davies in about 1850.....I
will ask my sister to ask Llangefni if they can find it....and to get a
copy........thanks!
Yours gratefully....

Hi All,
Virus warnings are generally considered to be totally off-topic for Rootsweb lists, since the warnings cause more problems than the virus. So I'm getting in first this time.
The new Melissa virus is passed in as a Microsoft Word macro attachment. You won't get it from Rootsweb, because Rootsweb doesn't allow attachments.
It is transmitted primarily, it seems, from Microsoft Outlook users with the header line: "Here is the Document you asked for", with "list.doc" as an attachment, and will probably come from someone you know. If it is sent to you, "just trash" it seems to be the current advice.
For those wishing to find out more about Melissa details are available on
http://www.avertlabs.com/public/datafiles/valerts/vinfo/melissa.asp
Please don't follow up to the list on this one.
Thanks,
Malcolm

Thnaks for the warning. I went to the site and the first paragraph had this
to say:
It was first discovered by NAI's Dr Solomon's VirusPatrol on the alt.sex
newsgroup on March 26. The viurus has spread rapidly around the world and
infected thousands."
My response: that alt.sex will do that to ya!

No you haven't contacted me before but I can't help you ,Pen as my
information is only for Anglesey prior to 1837 for marriages and only the
1851 census.
What you could do to get a cert is write to the Superintendent Registrar for
each district where you have a record of birth and enclose £6. 50. for a
cert. We usually enclose a S.A.E as well. If you specify both the date you
have and his father's name then the registrar will return your money if they
do not have the corresponding details although they may make a handling
charge. Obviously you wouldn't do all thirteen at once, and you might pick
known mining areas for a start.
Sorry I can't be of more help

Hi All,
I know the Rhondda isn't in Powys (unless they've moved it!), but many of us here also have Rhondda research interests.
Two Rhondda based list members who have provided a great deal of help to myself and others have set up their own research business - called Rhondda Research, so you can easily remember it!
I have no hesitation in recommending them, they have helped me a great deal. Here's what young Dave Philips has to say:
" We offer a reliable and reasonably priced research service for the Rhondda
which includes Burials/Obits/Census Returns/Memorial Inscriptions/BMD

Waugh is most frequently a Scots name, quite often found among Northern
Irish migrants to North America in the 18th Century. I'd be interested to
know of any occurrences in Wales. Julie Preston might be well advised to

Hello Betty, Assuming Hannah HIRD was 19 when she married first in 1819;
that would make her 52 in 1852, so its unlikely that she is the mother of
Mary Jane WILLIAMS. Also the John WILLIAMS she married in 1929 was shown
as btp (bachelor of this parish); so he probably didn't have any prior
children.
I have traced the STEELE family back to Amlwch through their daughter
Margaret Ann; it was a surprise to find a second marriage to John WILLIAM.
So I don't know very much about him; the family may have a connection with
Liverpool which is where Margaret STEELE and Richard LEWIS went to marry
at St. Nicholas Church. Margaret's father William STEELE was on the
marriage cert. and his occupation was Tide Waiter (Customs Official). Both
Amlwch and Liverpool being ports, I thought the family may have moved
there. Do you know if Mary Jane WILLIAMS lived in Liverpool or
Flintshire/Denbighshire where the LEWIS family lived ?
I was lucky with the surnames HIRD and STEELE; only a handful it seems in
Anglesey. WILLIAMS is a different story I'm afraid; it will be difficult
to trace the family under that name.

grandmother Mary Jane WILLIAMS, who I know was a master mariner and alive
on her marriage certificate in 1874. She lived in Port Amlwch and had
been born May 1852. It is possible this John Williams you refer to is
the father, although there were other John Williams in Amlwch in this
period. If you have further information on this John Williams, I would
appreciate hearing from you.

I've just had a look at the IGI fiche for Anglesey, only 3
Mary Jane's listed; none close to the date 1852 I'm afraid.
Thanks so much for the above! Appreciate your response ... have a

Hi,
If anyone can help Heather with a possible county of origin for her WAUGH

for WAUGH to see where in Wales the name shows up.

Subject: Re: "Singlewomen" in Baptismal records
Hi John,
Ref: Your question on "baseborn" and Singlewomen.
The subject of unwed mothers and dead beat fathers, in the modern
world, is a product of our current social ideas where the state is
becoming responsible for the personal conduct of indiviuals. It was
not so in the past.
The subject is too involved and complex to unravel and argue on a genie
list. However, let me say that in the past the family was all powerful,
and without the family a person had a poor chance at life. There were
few social nets for the unwed mother or bastard child outside the
family. To understand the social situation in Britain in the last
century examine some of our third world countries today.
Being an unwed mother was a family problem not a state problem. It only
became a state problem when state money was involved, which was rare.
However, the world was a big place and even in Britain it was very easy
for a father to abandon a child or unwanted family. But, the attitude
was different then. The church and religion was all powerful and
fathers had a personal responsibility to family and life built on God
far stronger than any puny state laws today. One can escape a state law
but one cannot escape a personal commitment to religion.
The family was everything prior to WWI and earlier. Divorce, depending
on the location and era, was for the most part unheard of and in most
cases prohibited. Even as late as the 1930's divorce in Britain was
still a stigma and not a widespread practice. So, people being what they
are, there was a great amount of "messing around" going on. Daughters
were practically locked up in their farms or homes by anxious fathers.
And, because they were so potected it was often considered the
daughter's fault if she became a mother outside of wedlock - in those
days considered a defect in her upbringing or her mind -and a shame to
the family.
But - this discussion could go on for hours -it is very complex - so
good luck with your research.
Back to ancestor research ------

Keith

Hi to a fellow look-up person though I do a fraction of your work!
I am trying in vain to find the marriage of my gr gr gr grandfather to his
second wife in an attempt to find HIS father's name. A fellow researcher in
Colwyn Bay and I (in CT, USA) are trying to link our trees....a difficult
task!
Here is the info......
DAVID DAVIES b. 1811 in Llandyfrydog, Anglesey.
second wife....ELIZABETH PARRY..they married about 1850 in Amlwch.
( First wife died 1846 but David is with second wife in 1861 census).
We ahve been unable to find their marriage so are thinking that she may have
been listed with her maiden name which we now think may have been
PRITCHARD....second guess is THOMAS...
Is this a needle in a haystack or what?
Pla tell me if you think you have enough info to do a lookup...THANKS!
