Hello Janaya
At least I can tell you which the parish is. It must be
Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, which is the only parish called Llanrhaeadr in
Montgomeryshire. Famous beauty spot about 12 miles west of Oswestry.
Llanfyllin is a town just to the south.
Best wishes

Hello,
I am searching for information on my ggg grandmother Jane Rees.
according to the 1881 census she was living in Cheshire England, with
her husband (John Swinnerton) and their children. on the census she is
listed as being 38 years old, born in Llanridada?, Montgomery, Wales.
If I have done this right she would be born between 4 april 1842 and 3
april 1843.
does anyone have any information on Jane or how I could find anything? I
just got her surname a few days ago from her daughters (my gg
grandmother) death certificate, her in canada. I know that Jane died in
her home in cheshire between 1881 and 1886, because she died before my
gg grandmother left england for canada.

How about 'off the board' then - to my email address?
I'm stuck on the bit that says: "hidden and encrypted to -anyone- but the
place I am conducting business with."
Thank you in advance,

Hi Cheryl Ann, IN
An english expression used to describe British people who belong to any
Christian denomination which doesn't conform to the doctrines of the
established church of England. See Webster for a good definition.
In turn, I'd like to know what was an 'Independent' chapel & were they
entirely separate from other such chapels?
2000 best wishes, Tony

PS - you can get some information on the Peachbottom Slate history through
the Slate Valley Museum - someone published a book on it and they sell it at
the Museum.

Wow Bonnie! That was one long email!
I'll be interested in hearing if you find out anything about your
Llanddeniolen connections and the ones with the Edwards surname. I have
Jones and Edwards connections in North Wales - Jones in Llanddeiniolen and
Cwm y Glo and Edwards I'm not sure where just yet - only in the Bethesda
area.

some facts on my Jones ancestors from Caernarvon. Not
stated on the web page is the fact that Owen Jones was
listed as a "Slater" on the ship's manifest in 1853.
Note also that Owen's first child and only son was
named William J. Jones. Owen also had a daughter named
Ellen. Many similarities, but not unusual, I suppose.

I think you may find helpful the magazine FlyPast.
The April 1999 issue had a 16 page supplement on RAF Medals and how to
collect them.
You should be able to get it (FlyPast) in any newsagent in UK. Then apply
for a backissue.

Hello List,
I think Mike has explained in great detail how Internet purchasers are
well protected by their credit card companies from all types of fraud.
I'm not a web security expert but I can tell you I have used Genfair,
and other online sites to purchase a variety of items from companies
both in the USA and the UK. I have used my credit card and Netscape
Navigator to make these purchases. Without one iota of trouble. Why?
Simple. Because Netscape shows me a little locked padlock icon which
means I'm using a secure SSL. That means that the transaction and its
contents are hidden and encrypted to -anyone- but the place I am
conducting business with. I know there is a more technical description
of the secure socket, but it isn't necessary for me to explain it all
here.
To better understand security issues related to Netscape check out the
following links by clicking on the link or copying it to your browser.
http://home.netscape.com/security/basics/index.html
If you use Internet Explorer check out
http://www.microsoft.com
and follow the appropriate links regarding security. IE also uses the
same type of technology.
Most companies list their secure server info on their site.
Example at Genfair: From Front Page you click on TECH HELP, from that
page you click on BROWSERS
http://www.genfair.com/tech.htm
Example at Amazon.com: At http://www.amazon.com/ Click on HOW TO ORDER.
(towards upper right side) On that page click on CREDIT CARD PROTECTION
to get to:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/subst/help/security-guarantee.html/104-...
In the end the Netscape FAQ page perhaps says it best:
In the real world, you often give your credit card to
cashiers or waiters, and you give out your account
number over the phone when placing an order.
Using your credit card number on the Internet is no
more dangerous than these practices. In fact, it is
often more secure to give out your account number
over the Internet, because many sites work with
your browser software to encode your transaction
so if outside parties intercept it, they won't be able
to read it.
Please see
http://home.netscape.com/security/basics/shopping.html
for the rest of this article.
As for fears of someone hacking into someone's personal computer to find
personal information, there is plenty of information on the web
regarding what can and cannot be acquired from a persons PC. (Search
www.askjeeves.com, for example). One of the best things any computer
user can have is a good VIRUS program. It informs and protects you from
those unwanted nasty little things overall called viruses that are the
biggest threat to anyone surfing the web and downloading files. Always
worth the few dollars they cost. Being better informed will certainly
make everyone's Internet experience less worrisome. It will also allow
those of us interested in family history/genealogy to spend our energy
on finding those elusive ancestors.
Happy Hunting,
Carla

Dear All
I know that some might feel this is a bit off subject, but I'm sure some
wonderful soul out there will have the information at their finger tips.
In 1944, my uncle, an Air Gunner on Lancasters was awarded the Distinguished
Flying Medal.
I wish to find out some more information on the medal, and the circumstances
for which it was awarded.
Has anyone any idea who it would be best to contact, either by post, email,

Thanks, and Happy New Year.

As I am trying very hard to gather enough information on my family from Wales so I can find from which area to do more research, I thought I would share with some of the list in case they can help me. Great great grandfatherWilliam P. Edwards left N. Wales approx. 1848 for Peachbottom Township, York Co. Pa to mine slate. His wife was Catherine P. and one child born in Wales was Mary. The other living daughter was Laura born soon after in PA. Catherine and other children (boys) died and then William married Ann Morris widow of Michael Morris about 1860-61 at Bel Air, Harford Co., Maryland. Son David Morris Pierce Edwards b. 1862. Where were William and Catherine married? Probably non conformist as records here show Calvinistic Methodist to start. (Welsh Church- Rehoboth later) Definite family connections are in bold print.
Slateville Presbyterian Church
Just North of Delta, Pennsylvania
York County
This church is located at the intersection of Ridge Road(runs along the slate ridge) and Prospect Road. Prospect Road goes to the main street of Delta which goes directly to the town of Cardiff, Maryland ( Harford County.
These are some of the Welsh graves. These all have the location from which these people emigrated.

The Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church seems to be in Cardiff, Maryland. It is difficult to tell because Delta, PA is next to Cardiff. The Slate Ridge Cemetary is in Maryland at Griffith Road and Line Road, Cardiff, Maryland. There are some early hand done slate tombstones in this cemetary. LC 1805, CH 1800.

The Welsh Church is Rehoboth Welsh Church located on the Main Street in Delta, PA.
The Pastor is John Price Basewell and the service is on Sunday at 6 pm. There is a Methodist Church, A Baptist Church with no cemetary in the Town. There is the Mt. Nebo Methodist Church 2 miles from town with a cemetary, but with no Welsh graves.
The tombstone list is not complete for Slateville or Slate Ridge cemetaries, I only used the slate tombstones. Due to deterioration, the marble ones are difficult to read. I am going to try to get the 1930's WPA surveys of the cemetaries for you if they exist. If not, I need more work on the remaining gravestones.
