Jan,
Barry Island is in Glamorgan --- a posting to the Glamorgan list would
probably yield up an answer to your placename query.

Hello all,
I think the response Lee was after is "MGY" here. BTW, the 1841 census is
not indexed. The film for 1841 Llanbrynmair can be obtained through the
local LDS FHC's.

This request is a long-shot in the hope that someone from Wales may
just recognise this place.
I have in my possession a postcard type of photograph of my father, who
appears to be about three years of age which would make the date about
1911 or 1912. The card was sent by my grandmother from Wales to her
sister in London. She makes mention of a miners' strike and the
children going to Barry Island for the day with the Sunday school.
I am anxious to locate the place where they were living, but cannot
read the complete postmark. What I can read is ESYCWMM, which appears
to be the middle part of the place name on a circular stamp, which also
includes the date and the letter C above it. If anyone recognises this
place, I would be very grateful to hear from them.

Hi Rosemary,
Here's the data:

Hi listers
Some of you may not be aware that the whole of Great Britain is eventually
to be covered by up to 50 (1:25 000) Outdoor Leisure (yellow cover) and
about 300
(1:25 000) Explorer (orange cover) maps. An Explorer covers either TWICE or
THREE times the area of a Pathfinder sheet.
The original 1200 (1:25 000) Pathfinder (green cover) series are being
gradually phased out by the Ordnance Survey. This will take six years to
complete.
At the moment the upgrading programme has reached as far north as a line
roughly between Felixstowe and Cardigan. But six Explorer maps of parts of
Wales north of this line have also been published including No. 239 which
covers a 30km x 20km section of Montgomeryshire from Llanfair Caereinion to
Llanrhaedr-ym-Mochnant.
Like the Outdoor Leisure series they far better value for money than the
(20km x 10km) Pathfinder series.

Hi Ricki
Searched the Postal Address Book for Wales for 'Efail Fach' in the vicinity
of Llanerfyl but without success. Only the following turned up.
Town/village Name Post code
-------------------------------------------------------------
Llanerfyl Refel SY21 0ER
Efail SY21 0ER
Efail Craen SY21 0JE
-------------------------------------------------------------
Llanfair Caereinion Refel SY21 0EE
Yr Efail SY21 0EE
Hen Efail SY21 0EF
-------------------------------------------------------------
Llangadfan Henefail SY21 0PU
-------------------------------------------------------------
Dolanog Hen efail SY21 0LE
-------------------------------------------------------------
For those people searching for house or farm names the Postal Address Book
for Wales is an additional source to that of the Ordnance Survey maps.
It is available at most public libraries and gives the post codes for most
addresses, although there are gaps.
Unfortunately you have to make a guess at the nearest post town and then
look for the place-name under the adjoining villages. For instance
Welshpool covers quite a large area (including the town of Llanfair
Caereinion and the villages of Llanerfyl, Llangadfan and Dolanog etc.) yet
the village of Llanbrynmair has its own main heading and doesn't appear
under Machynlleth.

Hi Jefferson
There is a modern interpretative centre and bookshop at the site of the
battle which may be able to help you.
If you addressed your query to The 'Battle of Culloden Moor' Centre,
Inverness, Highland, Scotland, U.K. it should get there.

Hello everyone
My name is Tegid Lloyd Griffiths and I am the Grandson of Emyr Aled Jones,
all I can remember of him is that he lived in a council house at Cefn Brith
which is a couple of miles outside Cerrig-y-drudion.
As far as I am aware he had lived there for a great many years in that area.
If my memory serves me well he was a shepherd at one time. I would be
grateful for any assistance that you can provide for me.

All were born in Wales.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Liverpool seems to be a popular choice
and it is not one that I had considered. Thanks again. Bev
