Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi Blanche,
I'm sure this is the right list for Bala anyway.
I think someone else I was corresponding with mentioned that they
thought they had some connection with the Rev Charles. They may have
been on this list in which case they will probably reply to you. I will
try to find their message in case it was from the CLWYD-L list.

Hi Blanche,
I now know why Powys traffic is light this morning - it's all on the Glam
and Midmarch lists!
>A relative of our CHARLES family [from the Rhondda Valley, GLAM by way of
>Usk, MON] insists that the family is descended from the famous Rev Thomas
>CHARLES of Bala.
>
>I am not convinced, but have not been able to get back very far in MON.

>Blanche Charles
>Wellington, NZ
>
>[Have I got the right List? I think I have]
I'm tempted to make a chauvinist comment here, but will refrain for the
sake of good relations with the other list sponsors! Huw's Glam list does
Glamorgan, and Rosemary's Midmarch list does Monmouth (plus Brecon,
Shropshire and a few others).
Glamorgan list - glamorgan-l-request(a)rootsweb.com
Midmarch list - midmarch-l-request(a)rootsweb.com
as usual, just 'subscribe' in the message body.
Good luck,

Last I heard, Gwent don't have a Web page. Their email address is
gwent.fhs(a)cableol.co.uk
You will more likely find them on the Midmarch list,

Dear Lyn,
Clynnog Fawr is in Caernarfonshire - it is about 8 miles down the coast of
the Lleyn Peninsular from Caernarfon town going towards the town of
Pwllheli. This part of the County is called Dwyfor. Our Society has a
Marriage Index for the whole of the Dwyfor 1813-1837 if that is any help.

Does anyone know anything about Llanfyllin in the mid to late 1800s. I
have done some internet research and found out it was a market town
but any other information would be greatly appreciated. I have just
discovered that my grandfather Maurice Thomas was born there in the
1880s.
Thank you for any information you can provide.

My gt gt gt grandmother was Elizabeth Jones of Pwwygwichiad, Llandudno.
She was daughter of Elizabeth and Hugh Jones who lived at the farm.
Elizabeth married Richard Hughes, a copper miner from Amlwch and they
lived at Morfa, Llandudno - Morfa was common land later enclosed after
the 1843 Enclosure act for Llandudno.
Richard and Elizabeth later moved to Madoc Street and Richard formed
part of the contracting firm which built the Marine Drive around the
Great Orme.
Does anybody else have any connections with Pwllygwichiad farm?

[Hughes,Mark] For a number of years my father and I have searched for
my gt gt gt grandfathers younger brother. His name was Hugh Hughes, he
was born in c1845/6 at Morfa, Llandudno - 1 of 8 children of Richard and
Elizabeth Hughes. Hugh shows up on the 1851 census at "Morfa, Llandudno"
and in the 1861 census at 13 Madoc Street, Llandudno with his parents.
His father Richard being a copper miner in Llandudno.
In 1867, my 3 x gt grandfather, William Hughes married Harriet Bates of
Hillmorton, Warwickshire in the parish church in Hillmorton. William was
a plasterer/journeyman and Hugh was a witness to that marriage. (Perhaps
he was a plaster/journeyman - he was c22 by then).
Certainly by 1871 census he wasn't living at home in Llandudno. But a
grandson to his father Richard Hughes was staying in Madoc St. the night
of the census - it may have been the son of Hugh (infact it certainly
was unless Richard was a bastard). The child was born in Mold,
Flintshire.
The next we here of Hugh is a mention in his fathers Will of 1895 - then
in his sister Annes Will of 1904 he gets amention - this time she writes
my brother Hugh who is currently living in America (and gosh America is
a big place!)
That is the last we here of Hugh. A distant 1000000000th cousin says
that AN uncle Hugh sent a card to her grandmother when he was living in
Patagonia.......maybe him/maybe not! who knows
If this fits anyone elses story or if anyone has any advice I would
be most grateful.
>Mark Hughes.
Hi Eleanor,
My Gazetteer says LLanfyllin is in Montgomeryshire,Wales, 9 miles N.W. of
Welshpool.
Original Registers are deposited in The National Library of Wales.
1745-1846 records are in the I.G.I.
1764-1837 non-conformist records are at the P.R.O.
Here is the Web site to get you to the village of Llanfyllin:
http://www.multimao.com/
Hope this is a help.
Good Luck,
Dinnie
Hi All,
You may not know that Rootwseb, the engine that makes all these mailing
lists possible, is a non-profit organisation running its own hardware with
volunteer effort and supported by sponsorship and donations.
Of course nobody has to pay to benefit from Rootsweb's services, and
they're such nice people that that the thought of leaning on people for
money would horrify them. But if there is anyone here in a position to make
even a modest donation to Rootsweb, and who has the inclination to become a
Rootsweb member, you can find out how at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html
But let me make it clear - nobody needs to pay to be on a Rootsweb list.
Here is part of an 'News Release' from them today:
-----------------------------------------
Last week RootsWeb bought a Cisco 4500M router, which will let us
use up to 8 T1s at our main network operations center. This gives
us room to grow and, perhaps more importantly, will enable is to get
even more clever about working around problems out in The Net's core
mesh.
[ I'm not going to do the canonical beg and grovel for folks to
consider becoming RootsWeb Members, but I will note in passing
that buying the new router did put quite a dent in our budget ... ]
