Hi Stuart,
Great to hear from you, you have no idea the effort that has been put in by
myself and my cousin to locate the family of Edward Wilson in the USA.
No, he never returned to Tasmania, from Honolulu he went to Portland Oregan.
We are yet to find his death, but have found that of his wife Mary Ann who
certainly spent all the rest of her life in Oregan. I don't have my family
history notes with me at the moment, but between them and their children
they owned a lot of land in Oregan and Mary Ann actually bought land of
Edward and ran a hotel somewhere in east Oregan. It is at that point that
we lost track of Edward and don't know whether he left that State or died
there, but we have searched intensively for his death.
Edward was born in New York and was a widower with a child when he took part
in the uprising. He and Mary Ann had several children so it is difficult
to know whether one of those children was the child from his previous
marriage or not as we have found the birth notices for most of the children
but are missing a couple.
Edward had a son called Edward who did visit Tasmania, and also another son
was involved in the Maine disaster in Cuba, that son was purported to be
pretty high up in his militiary status, I will have to look up exactly what
I have on that and let you know.
I am going to overseas to Canada and cruising up to Alaska leaving here on
the 8th May 2002 and desperately wanted to call into Oregon to do some
research but unfortunately it's a long way from Tasmania, Australia to USA
and costs just didn't allow it. So if there is anything you can find for me
I would be truly appreciative.
I will send you the information I have on Edward and his family in a future
email, at the moment I have received a lot of further information in
relation to his family but haven't had a chance to update it due to all the
planning involved in my upcoming trip.
Regards
Lesley Walker

Dear Lesley,
I was interested to read of your research on your antecedent Edward Wilson
-- one of the "Canadian" exiles and would like to know more. My
information
(from Guillet, Landon's book on Woodman and from other sources)
is that
Wilson, after receiving his pardon, returned to North America, or at least
as far as Honolulu on the "Stieglitz." Is this wrong, or did he perhaps
return to VDL in later years?
If the latter, did he live out his life in VDL and where exactly?
I would appreciate corresponding with you on the subject of your
g-g-g-uncle
and if I can help from this end I'd be glad to do so.
Stuart D. Scott
