Bonjour, StellaBella. There is a lot about this group of French
patriot-convicts in the archives of this list - which in turn will lead you to several
websites that include transcriptions of convict memoirs and letters.
Remarkable stuff!
Also, you may wish to contact Carol Anne Chiniquy, who has done considerable
research on the group, especially those of the surname MOREAU - who have
descendants in Australia to this day. Carol Anne is at Chiniquy(a)aol.com.
She is my cousin and a great gal!
I myself have a cousin named GUERTIN (Francois? I do not have my notes and
have forgotten) who was one of those transported. He and most of the others
were eventually returned to Quebec. MOREAU's wife in Quebec had died when M
was given the OK to return, so he married in Australia and stayed there.
It's a remakable story - you'll find quite a lot in the archives.
Best wishes,
Ginny Crawford
