Hi, David. Thanks for your note. Somehow I understood from my reading
(bits and pieces, here and there) that quite a few of the Canadians/Americans
stayed as well. Sorry if I was providing wrong info!
Marceau, a widower, obviously had good reason to stay - today's large and
vigorous Marceau family in Australia is the result. I think there are
modern descendants of his first three children as well - the ones born in
Quebec. Joseph may well have gone back to Canada to be sure his children
were in good (family) hands, then returned to Australia with the axes - a
brilliant idea! - and then married. My cousin, who is related to Joseph,
has most of his relevant dates.
