Julie,
I checked all of my reference books that might help you and could not find a
"new erie". So at this point I would look at the county histories for each of
the counties you are interested in plus Erie Co.
Another item that is going to be very important to you is what time period are
you talking about? If you don't know your county formed dates, go to the
USGenWeb site for PA and check it out.
Another thing is that if you don't have easy access to the "County
Histories"
for each of your counties, you might want to consider purchasing those on CD
from
www.retrospectpublishing.com. I know Janet (who is doing this) personally
and she is doing a great job. I have some of her CD's for the counties I am
interested in. All of her CDs are $39.95 each. She picks books for her CDs by
the volume and what appears to be of most interest. Some will only have 1 or 2
books and others will have 3-4 books. But she tries to give each CD about the
same number of pages. She has done Luzerne and Mercer and eventually plans to
cover the entire state.
Good luck. meg

I am new to the list and fairly recent to my search into PA.
I have two questions:
1. Was there a place in PA referred to as ~New Erie~?...perhaps some place
that eventually changed names because of the Erie in Erie Co?
2. Was there any other place (other than the known Erie Co town, that
originally was known as Erie in PA and changed it's name?
To that question, I am wondering specifically about Northumberland,
Luzerne, Mercer, and Lawrence counties, but I am interested in wherever one
may have been.
Thank you for your time,
