John,
Usually you find marriages in church books or Court Houses in the area that
they lived. Dot B

Subject: [PAGENWEB] KRIEGERs in Pittsburgh
I am having difficulty in tracing the origins of a family called
KRIEGER
and as I am unfamiliar with the registration system in the US I wonder
if there is anyone who can help with a specific query, please?
I am anxious to track down the marriage records of Louis Krieger. In
the 1900 census he was shown as living at 141 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh,
Allegheny County PA. His date of birth was given as October 1873, though
from the Interment Register of West View Cemetery (details kindly
provided by the archivist of Rodef Shalom Temple) he died in Feb 1965 at
age 88, which would make his birth in around 1877. Louis was born in
Poland but his parents brought him and his sister Celia (born Dec 1880)
over to Pittsburgh in 1887. In the 1900 census his parents were listed
as Auz (name indistinct as over-written on the census sheet) (born Dec
1835) and Annie (born March 1842).
Louis married Lillian (Lillie) BAKER and their eldest child Lester was
born about 1904, so I guess the marriage would have been a year or two
earlier. The reason I am so keen to find the marriage records is that I
hope it may shed light on where precisely Louis was born and also the
correct name of his father. Incidentally, the latter first came to the
U.S. in 1882 and then went back for his family in 1887.
In England, where I live, it would be a simple matter of going to the
Family Records Office in London and looking up the appropriate registers
as they cover marriages anywhere in the country. But I am not familiar
with the system in PA so would be grateful for guidance as to where to
go for the records of Louis' marriage.
Best wishes
Peter Hinton
