I tried one more thing...2 men are reported as HOH in the 1830 census report
for German, Fayette Co. PA with the name of Jacob Mack. Also, in the same
census report year (1830) a variety of families show up in various places in
PA with names like Grawl (mostly Graul...but other variations as well).
The names reported in the early censuses often were spelled differently from
census to census. This obviously creates annoying difficulties when trying
to do research.
Good Luck...drew

Subject: RE: [PAGENWEB] MY BRICK WALL
A James Mack of the appropriate age shows up in the 1830 census for Henry
Clay Township, Fayette Co. PA. So, perhaps you want to concentrate your
search for his parents in this Twp. and Co.
James (apparently the same man based on his reported age) subsequently shows
up in the 1840 and 1850 census report for Jasper, IN. He doesn't seem to
show up again, so he probably died before 1860. You might want to see if
any churches in Jasper have a record of his death. Further, their might be
a record of a will, and perhaps even a death certificate registered with the
city or Co. government (a death certificate isn't likely, but if one exists,
it should name his parents). It seems likely there was a will as he was
worth abt. $3,000 in 1850...which also says that he was probably on the
local tax rolls. However, a will and tax records probably won't mention his
parents.
Because James didn't marry until 1825, he probably doesn't show up in census
reports prior to 1830 because he wasn't in a head of household status--prior
to 1850, census reports only captured the name of the HOH. BTW, records at
Ancestry.com--an expensive membership service--say that James' wife was
Catherine Grawl.
This is all the help I can furnish...pls don't respond w/questions. To go
further, finding someone who can do on-the-ground research in Fayette Co. PA
is probably your best bet.

Thanks so much. Know he married in 1825
either (supposition) Allegheny or Montgomery
Co PA to Catherine Growall according to some
records I found online by a lady over in CO who
I have recently corresponded with, her listing
was on Family
Search.Org
If I could find the church they were married by
possibly would tell me when for sure and where
he was born and to who.
Know he was born 1781-2 PA unknown
location. I also have been in touch with a lady
who has told me her Perry Mack was the grandson of my Perry Mack son of
James and
Catherine (Growall) Mack. Coleen
