Dear List,
I cannot remember if I ever posted this message on list, I know I did post it on the
BRAITHWAITE board.
As I have now found all the census records of my family (thanks to the list members) I am
hoping the message will find members researching or descended from Richard and Ann.
"I am looking for descendant's of the BRAITHWAITE family who came to PA in or
around 1849. The names are Richard b 1818, wife Ann b 1815, kids John b1839, William
b1840, Rachel Calvert b 1841 and Mary b 1844. This family came from Leeds, Yorkshire,
England. Although Richard was baptized in Bishop Monkton, North Yorkshire.
On the 1850 US census the surname is down as BRETHETT and the family are in Brownsville,
Fayette. On the 1860 the surname has changed to BIRTHWAIT they are still in Brownsville,
the family had grown by this time with the addition of 4 sons all born in PA George b
1851, Richard b 1855, Joseph b 1857and Thomas b 1860. On the 1870 census they are down as
BREATHWAIT and are in Redstone, Fayette. On the 1880 census they are down as BRASTHWART
and still in Redstone."
I am not 100% sure but I think John b 1839 served in the civil war.
Kind regards
Keith Braithwaite, Leeds, Yorkshire.
