Subject: {not a subscriber} Matthew W. Forsyth, Picture Frame Maker,
Philadelphia
Dear PAGENWEB list members:
I am researching a painting bearing the label of the Irish born picture
frame maker, Matthew W. Forsyth, who, in 1885, established M.W. Forsyth
Co., a
business on Walnut Street in Philadelphia.
The 1920 US Census lists a 63 year old picture frame manufacturer,
Matthew
W. Forysth who was living in Philadelphia with his wife, Mary. and two 30
year old daughters. Forsyth was born in Ireland and his birth year based on
the census record would be 1857. Of note, two years before the census record
was
taken, Mr. Forysth lost his son and namesake on September 12, 1918 during a
World War Two battle against the Germans in Thiacourt, France. Private
Forsyth served in the US Army 12th Field Artillery and was awarded the
Distinguished Service Medal.
I have been unable to locate any other details of Forysth's life and
business and would welcome any additional information found or references
to other
sources of information shared by list members.
Cordial thanks,
Mary Webb
