Sara, I suggest going to your local JAG office. They should be able to come
up with the ID/address match that the PA state folks require for the death
certificate you want.
In the meantime, you imply that Mike's death certificate doesn't cite his
parents' names or his birthplace in Italy. If that's so, I think you're
almost out of options (particularly if it was a family member who provided
his bio info on the DC). If the DC cites his birthplace, then maybe there's
a way to search records at that location...many European countries have
better church records than in the U.S., or so it appears.
Thanks for your service--good luck and take care!

Subject: [PAGENWEB] Mike Gillotte; 1877-1944
Everyone,
Im trying to find some information for Mike Gillotte (mostly his parents
names), and am hoping some of you may be able to give me some ideas on some
further steps I can take.
Mike (Michele) Gillotte
Born 18 Dec 1877 in Italy
Immigrated to US appox 1899
Married Rose Vallella appox 1898
Naturalization in 1907
Worked as a coalminer and lived in Morrisdale, Clearfield Co, PA
Had children: Rose (1903); Teresa (1904); John (1905); Frank (1908); Sara
(1913), Caroline (1915), Genevieve, aka Janelle, (1918), Virginia (1922)
The whole family attended St Agnes Catholic Church in Morrisdale, PA, and
that is where he is buried.
The information on his immigration is sketchy at best, and I believe he got
married to Rose in the US. I do have the 1930, 1920 and 1910 census, but
cannot find anything for 1900. I have his death certificate. I have
written to both Clearfield and Centre county looking for his marriage
certificate and they can find no record. I tried writing to the PA State
Archives to get a birth cert for Rose (daughter). I thought that since she
was the first born, perhaps they were living in a different county back
then, and her birth certificate may give me that. But, the State Archives
will not send it to me. They require two forms of ID, and since I am
military, my drivers license address and mailing/check address do not match.
I have an
ancestry.com account, but the local paper available online
(Clearfield Progress) does not cover the year he died (for an obit) and I
couldnt find any other references to him in the paper.
If anyone has any ideas on additional steps I could take, I would really
appreciate it.
Thanks!
Sara
