Hopefully there will be someone/several subscribed to one of these lists who
can help direct me in my research of my elusive g-g-g-g-grandfather Francis
FERGUS, born 8 Sep 1752, Co Tyrone, IRE, immigrated prior to enlistment in
1776. I am willing to do the work . . . but this is really getting
discouraging.
I have nothing but the following information:
I believe that Francis FERGUS was in the PA Militia as he seemed to come and
go as militia did, rather than a 2 year stint.
On his Pension Application made out when he was in his 70's he listed:
==========================================
enlisted 3 August 1776 from Bucks Co. Served 2 months as a private in Capt
John Jameson's Co, Colonel Roberts PA Regiment.
March 1777 re-enlisted for 9 mo. as wagoner under Capt James Barclay and was
in the Battle of
Brandywine, Germantown, and White Horse.
Feb. 1778 re-enlisted and served 2
mo. under General John Lacey.
================================
I live in northern Michigan with access to a FHC and have searched a number
of films, books (while I was in SLC). I am not sure where to turn. I could
not find any listing in the PA Archives, but I am wondering if I missed
something. I did find a mention of General John Lacey and also I believe
Col. Roberts, but not a list of enlistees. Is there a repository with all
of the listings of the soldiers, or am I wishing that there were?
I need to find some proof for his Rev War service for D.A.R. application.
Another cousin in Arizona is also searching but we have come up
empty-handed. I do not know where to look next. Would there be lists of
enlistees under Capt John Jameson? Or Colonel Roberts PA Regiment? Or
something under Captain James Barclay? Perhaps General John Lacey.
As you can see he was a private, so not high in rank when he was 24 years
old. He had left a troublesome Ireland and traded it for a revolutionary
war. I truly want to find this information because his pension was rejected
as he did not have enough time in for a pension. . . yet he would have also
risked his life at times even in being a wagoner or a teamster. Also, is
there a difference between a wagoner and teamster? Or are those words
interchangeable.
I am in need of a genealogy transfusion!
