Were there influences that caused people to move east from PA between 1870 and 1877?
The reason I ask is that William H. and Martha J. Moyer were living in Union County Haines
Twp. in the 1860 and 1870 census with several children including a grand-daughter Barbara
Weikle in the 1860. By the 1870 census Barbara is living with a Henry Shaulter family in
Centre County Benner Twp. I have no idea who the Shaulters are.
Family legend goes that sometime between the 1870 census and 1877 apparently, when Barbara
married in MO, she, her Grandparents, William and Martha Moyer and an Aunt, Rachel Moyer,
left PA in a covered wagon and settled in MO. Barbara's other Aunts and Uncles are
not mentioned in MO and it would seem some would have been too young to have married and
remained in PA.
If anyone can suggest reasons it may help me piece more of their story together.
Thank you very much,
Charlene
