They do not appear in the 1850 Census.
In the 1860 Census they are listed as residents in Phillipburg,
Warren Co, NJ. The household is made up of David (40 YO), Emma (44 YO), James (19
YO), Mary ( 15 YO), Kate (11 YO), and Lucy (9 YO). 18 YO Peter Lewis, an
Irishman, is also listed in the household.
In the 1870 Census David Meldrum (50 YO) is recorded in Pittsburgh,
Allegheny Co, PA. Also in the household is Emma (54 YO) Lucy (19 YO), Mary E
(25 YO), Kate (21 YO),
and Mary (7/12 YO). Also listed are John G Shamer (26 YO) and James J
Woods (31 YO).
In the 1880 census there is a David Meldrum (b. abt 1820), Emma
Meldrum (b. abt 1816), and a Mary E. Shannon (b. abt 1846) listed in Santa Rosa,
Sonoma Co, CA. They are listed as born in England.
What I came up with under Braithwaite in 1860 were Richard and Mary on
the St Lawrence River in New York. In 1900 one of the Braithwaite records
is for Richard and a son Thomas and a daughter in Kentucky. The other
Braithwaite record is for Richard and Margaret. Neither record showed any links to
Brownsville, PA. Hope this helps and feel free to contact me as I volunteer
