Keith,
You asked for the Richard BRAITHWAITE family in the 1850 and 1870 Census. I
think this is them in 1850. Although the wife's name is different, the
husband and the placename are the ones you gave. Other than this, I had no
luck in finding the family in 1850:
1850 Census of Brownsville, Fayette, Pennsylvania
BRETHETT
Richard; 30; b. England; laborer
Mariah; 29; b. England
John; 13; b. England
William; 10; b. England
Calvert; 8; b. England
Mary; 6; b. England
Better luck in 1860:
1860 Census of Brownsville township, Fayette, Pennsylvania
BIRTHWAIT
Richard; 40; Machinist; b. England
Ann; 43; b. England
John; 21; b. England
William; 19; b. England - farmer
Rachael; 17; b.England
Mary; 15; b. England
George; 9; b. PA
Richard; 5; b. PA
Joseph; 3; b. PA
Thos; 2 months; b. PA
No luck in 1870, but this may be their son:
1870 Census of Manti, Sanpete, Utah Territory
BRATHWAITE
William; 29; laborer; b. England
Elizabeth; 19; b. England
William; 2; b. Utah

1860 Census of Phillipsburg, Warren, New Jersey
MELDRUM
David; 40; b. England; gardener
Emma; 44; b. England
James; 19; b. England; gardener
Mary; 15; b. England
Kate; 11; b. New Jersey
Lucy; 9; b. Pennsylvania
LEWIS, Peter; 18; b. Ireland; garden laborer
MELDRUM, Rachael; 17; b. England
No explanation as to why Rachael is down at the bottom of the list, except
that, maybe, she was not a daughter in this family.
1870 Census of Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania
MELDRUM
David; 50; b. England; Landscape gardener
Emma; 54; b. England
Lucy; 19; b. PA
Sorry, but I could not find your MELDRUM family in 1850 with that spelling.
Patricia
Would it be possible for anybody locate family of mine on the 1850/60/70 census. I do not
know if your census's are indexed as I live in Yorkshire, England. If this is not
practical please forgive my ignorance for not knowing how your returns work.
Both families came to the States in around 1849/50 from England.
The families are David and Emma Meldrum, I have this family census record for 1870
Allegheny, Pittsburgh. If possible I would like to find them on the 1850/60 census. I also
have the census record for their son on the 1870 Allegheny,Pittsburgh James Meldrum and
wife Nancy. I have a letter from this family dated 1849 as living in New Jersey, near
Easton, Pa.
My other Family is Richard and Ann Braithwaite, I have this family census record for 1860
Fayette, Brownsville,Pa. I would like to find this family of mine on the 1850/70 if at all
possible.
Any help would be much appreciated, Anybody needing help with family in Yorkshire, England
I will do all I can to help them.
Regards
Keith Braithwaite.
