Hello,
I am looking for info on Emil Wiegand, a beer brewer who came from Germany
and was one of the pioneers of beer brewing in Japan. I admit I am not
related to him, though.
He obviously arrived in 1854 in the USA, filed his letter of intent in 1856
in Philadelphia, spent 1869-80 in Yokohama/Japan - successively as employed
brewer, as owner of a brewery and partner of a brewery, predecessor of
today's beer giant Kirin - and died in San Francisco 1882.
His other (date and place of birth, location and activity in the US, reasons
for leaving for Japan etc.) whereabouts are not clear yet.
Who can give me more details on him?
I am also prepared to take over reasonable expenses if someone can do a
lookup in the naturalization records and/or obit of San Francisco.
Sincerely,
Michael from Munich/Germany
