I am also new, but several years ago was on this list, great folks helped me. I am seeking
further info on the Johan Marckus Neythoffer, or Neidhoefer the present spelling in
Germany. In 1754 Johan Mackus and wife arrived aboard the "Friendship" in
Philadelphia. There were about 150 souls that left Hessen or Franconia, Germany. We do not
know which area, but do know the last name, Neid, is two areas in Hessen, we were not
lucky enough to get the three pages usually filled out on leaving and arriving and the
wives and children upon arrival. But, we do think they brought at least a small child,
Johan Jacob, who later served in the Revolutionary War.
This name is rare it seems, but we have found at least close to 4,000 decedents of this
couple. They were Lutheran, and St Michal's Lutheran Church had one baptismal record
of a daughter ca: 1760. Can I research this church's records on line, or any other
records any one can help with?
The present days spelling of the original Neythoffer is Neideffer, Nidever, Nidiffer, and
in Germany Neidhofer. Any help of course would be greatly appreciated. We sort of lose
contact with them after the daughters birth, but do know they had maybe three other sons.
Thanks so much, Gwen Neidefer,
