John Kramer is my great grandfather I have his descendants from his marriage
to Amelia Romberger.
This is all I have as background for John Kramer. I am interested in finding
his parents, siblings, or other relatives as listed below. Also any info on
the Moyer family would be of great help.
Little is known about the early life of John Kramer. Family tradition holds
that he lived in Bucks County with his parents, two brothers and a
sister,(Joseph, William and Mary). John was the youngest and was 3 years old when his
parents died and was placed in the Schuylkill County Home. Later he was taken
to the home of Mr. Moyer who lived on a farm in Mahantongo Valley. All
records about John and his family were lost in a fire at the Moyer Farm, even his
birth date of March 15, 1850 is not certain. When he became a man he married
Amelia Romberger and lived in the valley for a while. Their two oldest
children were born and died there a few days apart from the measles. They are buried
in the cemetery at Rough and Ready. Later John, Amelia and two children m
oved to Mt. Carmel where John became a miner. Seven more children were born in
Mt. Carmel, PA Their offspring totaled 14, the last of which was born in
Berwick, Pa. The family moved to Berwick around 1902.
A tattered, yellowed scrap of paper was found by Wanda Saunders. It read: "
A Washington Rhods lived in San-Crus he was our mother, mother, brother. Had
a uncle Joe Kramer and a Uncle Bill Kramer one of these was injured in the
3rd war left a cripple leg walked crippled lived in Washington was in the old
soldiers home".
John Kramer was 75 years, 11 months, and 21 days old when he passed away.
Census records for June 29, 1860 list John Kramer living in Upper Mahantongo
with farmer George Moyer, age 49, wife Elizabeth, age 45, Eve Anna age 19,
Adam age 17, John Kramer age 9, Cathering Brosious age 9 and Cathering Yoder
age 4. 1870Census has John Kramer age 19 still living with the Moyer family..
Thanks in advance,
Ted
