Hi!
There is so much information on so many various GenWeb sites on the
internet...that we are always afraid we have missed something to which we
ought to be linking in order to share the wonderful work of those volunteers
with researchers who go to our website. So we would really appreciate a
"heads-up" whenever anyone spots poorhouse information on GenWeb sites. Here
is why.
----------------------------------
We are happy to announce that the amount of information about poorhouses in
Pennsylvania having become HUGE <grin> we have just published SEPARATE PAGES
for EACH COUNTY on our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for
information about 19th century American poorhouses)at
http://www.poorhousestory.com !!
The table of links to county pages is now coded so you can see which
counties contain photos (or illustrations), which have poorhouse records on
microfilm, and which are "special challenges".
This (the creation of these pages, the transfer of information onto them,
and their publication)was a massive project...so we figure there probably
were a couple of glitches which we may not have found. So please feel free
to contact us if you find any problem using the new pages. Of course ... we
would welcome any new information you could submit. We would especially like
to fill up any of those county pages where we show them coded as "special
challenges" ... aka counties for which we currently have no information. So
... go check out the counties which interest you and see how they are faring
in this quest to record their poorhouse history.
DIRECTIONS:
At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then click on
PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPORTANT NOTE! If you find only the single combined page (the old one)for
PA, then click REFRESH on your browser to see the new material.
Hope you enjoy the site!
