Conrad, I have found 2 books in our local library that are helpful. A 3 volume set
"Pennsylvania German Pioneers" by Ralph Strassburger, LLD published by the
Genealogical Publishing Co. in 1975 . The other "Thirty Thousand Names of Immigrants
to Pennsylvania 1726-1776" by I Daniel Rupp published by the same company in 1975.
My father's ancestors came over in 1739 and my mother's ancetors in 1749. Since
your Grandpa was living in Pittsburgh in 1827, these books are to early for your Grandpa,
but was he an immigrant or a descendant of earlier immigrants. Check sondex spelling and
alternate spellings on ship listings and good luck.
Warren

Thanks for all the information. It helps us all doing Pa-Germany research.
I have a Grandpa Adam Conrad living in Pittsburgh Pa from about 1827 on. He was born in
Stuttgart area. We cannot find him so our first guess is that he is using the greman
naming form and Adam is his second name. Johann is a family name so it might be the first
name for him. Alam is also a name in the male family line. He had a sister Elizabeth with
him in Pitts by 1890s.
Where do you suggest I look for Ship/Immigration records and for birth records in his
town? Are there now master lists for german documents like we have in the USA?
Thanks
