Hi, Leslie - to insert the pound sign into a Word document - do
"Insert", "Symbol" (which will bring up a table of symbols), click on
the desired symbol, and then click "insert". Bingo - there she is. You
could also do a simple macro - to do the same thing - and assign it to a
keystroke sequence - e.g., alt L is an easy right-hand sequence.

Hi Dom,
I am a computer illiterate attorney, who deals with 17th and 18th century
New York and Pennsylvania tax records almost daily. So what I really want
is a key on my keyboard that says £. How close can I get to that using a
short cut? Can you explian to me, in English, how to get as close as
possible to my 'ideal' situation.
Thanks,
Leslie Potter

Dear List,
I subscribe to the Dutch Colonies List. One of the other subscribers to that list just sent us the instructions for making the English Pound Sign. So for those of you who work with 17th and 18th Century American records, I am enclosing those instructions. I feel that this is so cool! Enjoy.
