Warren, I don't immediately recognize Faye Blackwell, but we had a Clara
[Blackwell] Fay who (I think) lived in Lycoming Co. back about the time
you're referencing. Her husband was Abe, but as a child visiting them, I
remember thinking that she was the boss. So, it wouldn't surprise me that
the Faye Blackwell you remember might have been my Aunt Clara.
Doesn't matter much...but it's fun to speculate.

Drew, While living in Lycoming Co, PA I was familiar with the Blackwell
name. I remember a Faye Blackwell, but do not remember where or when, and
do not know if that was her maiden or married name, and that was over 40
years ago.

Drew, Thanks neighbor. As a member of the Manatee Orchid Society, I have
been to Venice several times when we were setting up for the Venice Orchid
show. Unfortunately, this year we are not exhibiting. The Venice show is
generally the first week end in February. That was about the only time I
got to Venice. Generally I do not get much further south than in Bee
Ridge
road in Sarasota, and not much further north than Bay Pines VA hospital
west
of St. Petersburg.
I have the Johann Nicolas Ertle in my database along with wife and
children.
I will however record the church and township information. I have other
records indicating the Moslem Lutheran church, but have never heard of the
township name before. I originally lived in the Williamsport area in
Lycoming County, PA. until 1991 when we moved to Bradenton. The name was
Americanized to Artley later in the 1700 as shown on a will dated 1794.
On
the British ship London Billander the name was spelled Oertley on the
manifest.
Thanks again for your help.
I guess poor Abraham was delivered by the stork, as for 30 years, I have
found nothing about his ancestry.

I apologize for assuming that you were new to "rooting." I've only been
at
it for a little over a year (I took up where the prior family rooters
left
off).
Anyhow, the referenced set of books on Berks Co. Births (by J.T.
Humphrey)
lists a Johann Nicolaus Ertle b. 10 April 1758 to Heinrich and Catharina
(Frey) Ertle. This entry came from the records of the Moselem Lutheran
Church, Ontelaunee Twp. (interesting church and place name). These
books
contain no other entries for the variant spellings you mentioned.
If your folks are similar to my ancestors (poor and illiterate), they
didn't
leave many records, and the spelling of names can be a nightmare. Good
luck!
Drew Blackwell
PS I live about 30 miles south of you (in S. Venice).

Andrew, Thank you for your response. I have lived in Bradenton, FL
since
1991 and the public library has an extensive Genealogy department
including
a large section on Pennsylvania. I lived in Williamsport for 66 years
before moving to Florida and the library there also has a great
genealogy
department. I have been searching for details on Abraham for about 25
years. I will check out the Berks Co Historical Society . Thanks again
for
your suggestions.

Warren..."PA Births, Berks Co., 1710-1800" (by J.T. Humphrey) doesn't
show
the name Artley (as the title states, this 2 volume set only covers
birth
records, and doesn't address marriages, deaths or burials/cemetery
records).
The Berks Co. Historical Society (in Reading) has some church records
(marriages, births and etc.) indexed on line...if you see a name there
that
interests you, you can order a copy of the relevant page (the books
they
have are "published" compilations of church records--I never saw
"original"
church records, and don't know how that would be done). This
historical
Society also has other records such as tax rolls, land records and
more.
Berks Co. also has a Genealogical Society...in both cases, an
in-person
visit is the best way to do research (many records are only accessible
in
hard copy). Alternately, contacting your local library is a good
idea...the
reference-desk folks can probably guide you to the nearest library
having
a
large genealogy collection w/PA church record compilations. Said
library
will also probably have reference material on how to do genealogical
research, as well as free access to on-line genealogy services (such
as
Heritage Quest and Ancestry.com). The latter can be somewhat
frustrating
as
most libraries will limit a member's computer access to 1 hour at a
time;
but it's a start!

This is from Berk's County Church records, some of which you have
1.Rosenthal New Bethel or Corner Church
Elis. Barbara, b Feb 9, 1774, bapt Apr 3, 1774 , of Philip and Mary
Magdalene Maurer, spons: Elizabeth Maurer and Jacob Petri
baptized by Rev John Conrad Steiner jr.
Christine b Oct 30, 1771 bapt Dec 1, 1771, of John Philip and Mary
Magdalene
Maurer, spons: Christine Mary and Martin Bernhauseer
2. Schwartzward Reformed Church
Jun 4, 1797 Elizabeth Maurer, of Robeson , Berks Cty married
David
Beackwell, of Robeson, Berks Cty
Nellie Blackwell daughter of David and ---- bapt Jan 1, 1798, age
15
weeks last Wednesday spon: Marie Maurer
Johannes Blackwell, son of David and ---- born May 26, 1799, bapt
Oct
16,
1799
spon: Johannes Maurer
3. Tulpehocken, Berks County
Records of Rev John Casper Stoever
May 27, 1740 John Philipp Maurer married Catarina Rameer
(don't know if this is one of yours or not)
I couldn't find a John or John Philip with a birthdate of Nov 15,
1746,
I
did find one with the birthdate of Nov 10, 1745 his parents were
Henry
and
Anna Elizabeth Maurer, but of course no proof that this yours.
All spellings are as shown in the records.
Hope this helps a little.

number of years trying to find his parents in Lycoming--until I got lucky
last year and found the Berks Co. connection. We still have a few distant
relatives in/around Williamsport/Montoursville, but no living Blackwell's
that we know of.
We moved to Venice in 2004...just in time for everything to hit the fan!
Take care...Drew

Drew, Thanks neighbor. As a member of the Manatee Orchid Society, I have
been to Venice several times when we were setting up for the Venice Orchid
show. Unfortunately, this year we are not exhibiting. The Venice show is
generally the first week end in February. That was about the only time I
got to Venice. Generally I do not get much further south than in Bee Ridge
road in Sarasota, and not much further north than Bay Pines VA hospital west
of St. Petersburg.
I have the Johann Nicolas Ertle in my database along with wife and children.

I apologize for assuming that you were new to "rooting." I've only been
at
it for a little over a year (I took up where the prior family rooters left
off).
Anyhow, the referenced set of books on Berks Co. Births (by J.T. Humphrey)
lists a Johann Nicolaus Ertle b. 10 April 1758 to Heinrich and Catharina
(Frey) Ertle. This entry came from the records of the Moselem Lutheran
Church, Ontelaunee Twp. (interesting church and place name). These books
contain no other entries for the variant spellings you mentioned.

I lived in Williamsport for 66 years
before moving to Florida and the library there also has a great genealogy

(marriages, births and etc.) indexed on line...if you see a name there
that
interests you, you can order a copy of the relevant page (the books they
have are "published" compilations of church records--I never saw
"original"
church records, and don't know how that would be done). This historical
Society also has other records such as tax rolls, land records and more.
Berks Co. also has a Genealogical Society...in both cases, an in-person
visit is the best way to do research (many records are only accessible
in
hard copy). Alternately, contacting your local library is a good
idea...the
reference-desk folks can probably guide you to the nearest library
having
a
large genealogy collection w/PA church record compilations. Said
library
will also probably have reference material on how to do genealogical
research, as well as free access to on-line genealogy services (such as
Heritage Quest and Ancestry.com). The latter can be somewhat
frustrating
as
most libraries will limit a member's computer access to 1 hour at a
time;
but it's a start!

This is from Berk's County Church records, some of which you have

weeks last Wednesday spon: Marie Maurer
Johannes Blackwell, son of David and ---- born May 26, 1799, bapt

spon: Johannes Maurer

I really appreciate any help from anyone on ideas to help me locate this

Thanks for replying to my query. The only name that I have for the Cloud is Isaac Cloud and for the Smith, Gideon and Daniel. You have given me a direction to go in so hopefully I might find a clue or two.

I am researching the CLOUD and SMITH surnames. In 1740's Gideon Smith and his brother, Daniel, are found in Lunenburg Co, Virginia and then that part of Lunenburg that became Halifax Co., Virginia. In 1747 Daniel and an Isaac Cloud together had 400 acres surveyed in Halifax County. I was given some information that the Cloud's were from Pennsylvania and that the Smith brothers may have come from there as well. Can anyone proved any information on the Cloud surname that may have been found in Pennsylvania and if/or they have any connections to the Smith surname there as well? Any information shared will be most appreciated.
