When I use this web page it gives me Ancestry.com showing everything is
locked without a subscription. Are these bios supposed to be free pages to check
or do you need to scribe or go to the library?

Thanks so much to all of you who answered my letter about my brick wall.
Your suggestions are very much appreciated.
You are very wonderful and caring people!

Actually, they just raised prices on films. I think it's $6.00 or $6.25 a film. I just finished looking at about 25 of them (ordered before the price increase) and I think they gave me 3 weeks to go through them. You can extend beyond that, if you have to.
You can go to familysearch.org, click on the Library tab, and then click on the Family History Centers tab. Put in your address and you'll get the closest one to you.
Some of the FHCs have their hours listed. The problem is that they're all staffed by volunteers so sometimes it's hard to have enough people to open them for long hours. In any event, you should be able to get the phone number. If no one answers, keep calling.
In the meantime, you can search on familysearch.org, find the numbers of the films you want to rent and be ready to order them.
Good luck. When you're searching on the familysearch.org site, be sure to try from direct directions. Try Place, Surname, Title, Keyword -- try all of them. I wanted Philadelphia so I tried from different directions and had some luck this time.

Sandi,
Do you live near LDS Family History Center? They can get film on a lot of
records from PA that are from the 1800's. You can rent them from the Salt
Lake Lib. for $3.00 and can keep them for about 10 days if I remember right.
Go to "Familysearch.org" and click on the tab that says "Library" from
there you may find something that can help
Hope this will help. I know what you are going through. I've been there
myself.
Good Luck, Jan in St. George

Yeah, I realize this, but I seem to be stumped as to where to find
online records of these. So many times I search deeper and deeper
through various online sources only to finally end up on a page that
says what the museum/library hours are and how to get an appointment. I
live in Idaho, and I can't go to PA.
Also, I don't know any details about what county or parish my ancestor
might have been living in - I don't even know how to find the names of
the parishes, churches or counties of that time (1782-1811). I have
proof of him dying in Missouri but only family tradition has him being
born in Philadelphia, so I can't narrow the search at all. I don't even
know for sure what Christian denomination he belonged to.
I have tried all the readily available search engines, too: Rootsweb,
Ancestry.com, etc. But can't seem to find him. The more detailed my
search gets with these, the more I seem to be running around in circles.
I also can't find any record of the man we think was his father in PA
census records either.
Well, as you can see, I am about ready to give up. I was just hoping
that by some chance someone on this list might know a place for me to
look that I haven't tried yet.
Thanks for listening,
