HURD Bible
The Holy Bible Containing the Old and New Testaments,
New York, D. Fanshaw for the American Bible Society,
1819.
This Bible is in very good condition. Binding is tight, but has
a lot of wear and some loss to the spine. The pages are in
good condition, with foxing. It is a nice example of an early
ABS Bible.
A sheet of entries was pasted over some pencilled entries.
It appears that this sheet just repeats the entries underneath
it. I cannot find mention of this family anywhere, so I do
not know where they resided.

I am trying to find a marriage record for George W. FAUST and Katherine
Elizabeth SHEETS in Pennsylvania.
Katherine was born 8 July 1854 in Northumberland Co., the daughter of Jacob
and Sarah (nee WEIDENHAMMER) SHEETS (or SHEETZ); Katheirne's siblings were
born in Northumberland and Snyder Counties. George's birth date is 8 Jun
1852 in PA. This information comes from the book The John Jacob Dreibelbis
Family of America, 1732-1930 by Harvey C. Dreibelbis (I will do lookups),
and from census information.
I have found an IGI record stating that George W. FAUST and Katherine E.
SHEETS were married in 1874 in Montour Co., but when I contacted the
Montour County Clerk, they could find no record of this. However Sarah's
brother, Wellington Dreibelbis WEIDENHAMMER, is found in Montour Co. in the
1850 and 1860 censuses (Jacob & Sarah's daughter, Sarah Jane, is living
with Wellington in 1860; her intended, Henry W. GIBSON also lives in
Montour Co.). Can anyone tell me if there are marriage indexes for Milton,
Northumberland and Snyder counties?
Ultimately, I am looking for the parents of George W. FAUST, who have
eluded me thus far. I cannot find anything conclusive for him in any census
prior to 1880, by which time he and Katherine had moved to Indianapolis,
Indiana. I am at a loss as to how to locate his parents. Any suggestions
are welcome.
Thank you,
Vicki

SHULENBERGER Bible
The People's Standard Edition of the Holy Bible Containing
the Old and New Testaments. Philadelphia, Ziegler and
McCurdy, 1872. Hills #1878.
This Bible is in good condition, with the cover nearly coming
off and the spine separated. It could be easily repaired, and
the pages are in fine shape.
The handwriting is a fraktur style from Pennsylvania and is
gorgeous. I had originally mistaken many of the flowers and
accents as original to the printed page.

Whispers in the Wind
What twist of fate has brought me to the person I am today?
Was it the ocean voyage that brought my family here,
Fraught with danger, death, fear,
And the fervent hope that everything would be OK?
Or was it the bountiful sight of this new land that to them made everything
seem so clear.
Several people in my families past gave up the safety and comfort of home and
family for a chance at a new life, free of persecution and the constant
struggle for food in a poor and destitute land. They gave me a chance to
grow in this new place they call America. They gave me a chance to stand up
for my freedoms without the fear of oppression. It is not just our right to
study our family tree, it is our duty to remember those that formed this
land, as a child forms a ball from clay. That's right, DUTY! To forge ahead
in life and not remember the price paid by those that have gone before would
be a crime against humanity. Not just in this country, but the mother
country as well. It doesn't matter if you are red, white, black or yellow.
We are all of the same breed, one we call man kind, and we all need to be
remembered.
So the next time you see and old, beaten down cemetery, stop, look, and
listen to the voices riding the wind of those that have gone before. Take a
moment, with your eye's closed, and you just might hear a childs laughter
long forgotten, or the soft gentle tones of ones whisper of love to another.
Then record the cemetery, and share it! These people deserve to be
remembered if only on paper. The next time you go into a used book store and
find and old family Bible, copy the family information out and pass it on.
Without the Genealogists research and records, the past would slowly become
only whispers in the wind.
