Subject: County Coordinator Favor
NATE: A favor from the PAGenWEB County Coordinators if you please:
The Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania and GenCAP are cosponsoring
an "Electronic Publication Preparedness Survey." The purpose of this
study is to determine
how prepared or how willing Pennsylvania's records custodians are to
participate
in the burgeoning world of electronic publishing--both online and
packaged as CD-ROMs.
We are compiling a list of organizations to whom the survey should
be sent. And
although we have several address sources for PA libraries and archives,
we would
be remiss if we did not solicit recommendations from the PAGenWEB
County Coordinators, the people closest to the local genealogy scene.
We would greatly appreciate it if the CCs would identify KEY
historical libraries
and record repositories (both government and private) in their
counties. These
would be the places to which they would refer genealogists researching
in their counties.
With the exception of the eight counties (Philadelphia, Luzerne &
Lackawana, Cumberland & Dauphin, Lancaster & York, and Allegheny) that
cover the five major metropolitan areas, we would ask for the names and
addresses of the three (3) to five (5) repositories the CCs believe are
the most useful to genealogical researchers.
In the five metropolitan areas (Philadelphia, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton,
Harrisburg, Lancaster/York and Pittsburgh) we would greatly appreciate
the County
Coordinators identifying six (6) to ten (10) repositories they believe
are the
most useful to genealogical researchers.
Because we would like to personalize the Survey mail-out address,
if the CCs can provide us with the names and titles of the persons in
charge--the Head Librarians or Records Custodians--along with the
street addresses, that would most appreciated.
We would be pleased to share the findings of this survey with
PAGenWEB
by way of thanks for your assistance.
