Hi everyone -
I'm on the "official" (whatever that means) USGenWeb query committee,
mostly in an advisory capacity. The way things have progressed, I'm afraid
the situation is going to be confusing for a while. The query system that
Carol is using for Somerset Co., PA was developed independently by Nancy
Trice for the KYGenWeb Project and is now being made available to the
USGenWeb Project as a whole. Quite frankly, I like this web board/mailing
list type of setup and was one that I had pushed for on the committee.
However, the majority of the committee opted for another, more complex
design that is still being developed by a couple of the committee members.
The main feature of this system is that it will allow indexing of the
surnames in the queries.
So, everyone will soon (I think) have another choice as far as query
systems go. This will give you three choices:
1) As Gary said, if you have a setup that you are already comfortable
with, stay with it and don't bother changing.
2) If you want a hands-off system, the web board setup that Carol is
using will probably be the way to go.
3) If you want to have the surnames in your queries indexed, wait for
the system that will be coming out in the near future.
Just wanted to clear up any confusions before they started.
Thanks,
Mike
