I just found out that Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, a 150+-year-old building, is
scheduled to be torn down by the Northwest Pennsylvania Synod "in the next
few weeks." The building is the oldest structure in Licking Township, as
far as we can determine.
The Synod owns the property. It wants to destroy the sound and beautiful
frame structure to sell grave plots where the building stands today. It
hopes to raise money by auctioning the furnishings, doors, bell, windows, etc.
Is there anyone familiar with what action we can take in the PA Court system
-- without a lot of hassle and legal expense -- to put a temporary
injunction in place to give us time to work out an alternative plan for
saving the building?
Is there a PA lawyer on one of these lists who would be willing to represent
us pro bono? I'm an experienced paralegal and would be happy to handle
research and document preparation chores.
Does anyone know how we can convince the Synod to stop their plans and try
to negotiate something reasonable to save the building?
We're desperate here -- please send any suggestions you may have to me or to
the Clarion County mailing list: paclario-l(a)rootsweb.com
Thanks for your thoughts.......
