Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Hi Bill! (I actually grew up in the county next door -- Franklin, but

Hi Folks,
Please welcome Bill Patterson, bill.patterson(a)erols.com, as the new Fulton

The Fulton county website is located at:

We don't necessarily need to have a "roll call". However, it is nice when
individual CC's post to PAGEN-L just to let the other CC's know some of
their accomplishments. Showing progress on the local level will help
encourage others, and if you see some activity on another county page you
may be able to share that person's experience/expertise to do the same on
your own page. Also, some of the various projects being done at the local
county level overlap more than one county, and your "neighbors" may not be
aware of what the CC next door is doing.
So, if you are proud of your pages, let us hear from you. And if you have
been having any problems, let us hear about that too. Each and every CC
has something to contribute with the many and diverse experiences that
have come together as PAGenWeb CC's. Don't be afraid to talk to you
"neighbors", as we can all help each other to strengthen PAGenWeb and to
continue to make it the best collection of Counties in all of USGenWeb.

I'd like to publicly thank Gary for the fine job he has been doing these many
years as PA coordinator. Among the things I appreciate about him is that he
leaves us to operate independently and set our own goals and is fully aware
that we are volunteers. I have two PA counties and one in another state. While
I have no wish to criticize any state coordinator, I was disturbed when a
"hint" about meeting her statewide goals was passed to the County Coordinators
in that state. My gut reaction was that I had already escaped from the
corporate environment where I had to meet someone else's goals and that I had
way too many of my own goals to have to coordinate with anyone else's. That's
just my Yankee independence flaring up, but it did make me appreciative of
Gary's different style.
I also appreciate that Gary deals directly with the coordinators on any issues
and does not refer them to a "peer committee" as the other state coordinator
is attempting to do. Having seen alternative ways of handling the state
coordinator position makes me appreciate what we have here in PA. So keep up
the good work, Gary, and thanks for treating us as competent professionals.

Maybe a short roll call? :o)
I can add that I have just received 31 text files of the 1879 Bedford County
directory from a user. I am presently converting it to html and will upload
this to my Somerset site -- so it can be indexed into Surname Helper.
It will also be placed into the Bedford County Archives for users to
download.
Other recent donations to the website include a complete and thorough
listing of cemeteries for Southampton township. We are blessed to have a
fellow, known locally as the "Cemetery king", donate his hand transcribed
cemetery records accurate up to Jan.of 1999 (whoa! can you believe that
one!).
Census - we have almost all of the 1850 census online, some of the 1860,
some 1870 -- all down alphabetically and by township. We have 50% of all
the cemeteries (700 total) online now.
New - Coming
A memorial tribute to the 54th PA Volunteers, prepared by a former
Gettysburg National Monument park ranger, Jeff Evans, and to be delivered at
the April 17 Johnstown Civil War Symposium at the University of Pittsburgh-
Johnstown. Permission to reprint online has been granted (Jeff is writing a
book on the 54th).
(This regiment was composed mainly of men from Somerset and Cambria
counties).

Sheila,
I'm ever so sorry, I really am. I guess I got out of the wrong bed this
morning, and I had just finished being screamed at by an irate customer. I
should never ever write email when I'm angry.
I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. :-(
Perhaps a Roll Call would be okay...I mean...I havn't seen much activity on
this list lately.
All the best,
Brian

Greetings to all of Pennsylvania -from Venango and Sullivan,
Are we allowed to do a roll call of the counties on this list?
It would be nice to hear from all the counties.
I will start by saying
I am Sheila Barr Helser and I am the coordinator for
Venango County
http://www.rootsweb.com/~pavenang/
Venango has added quite a bit of new information to the War and Officers
pages.
The contributors are wonderful.
and
Sullivan County
http://www.rootsweb.com/~pasulliv/
We have now had 796 visitors, and growing.
Several nice contributors have stepped forward to contribute information
and I have been able to add twsp pages to the site.
Exciting news is, I was able to get the passenger list of the S.S. Nevada,
sailed in 1972 from Liverpool and Queenstown to NY. I got the list from the
LDS because my Greatgrandfather, Greatgrandmother, and Greatuncle were on
it and my Greataunt was born on the ship. It was written in the old
handwriting and had many "pages" of passengers. Typed there are 17 "pages".
Janice Brown in Calif. offered to transcribe the list. I sent a copy to her
and I have just received the disc in the mail. I will post it on a page
and add a link to it on all three of my rootsweb sites. Passengers were
from Ireland, England, and Germany.
