Judy,
After hearing your take on it, I'm not so sure I interpreted it
correctly now. Willi, if I interpreted it wrong, I apologize. And if
I interpreted it right, I apologize if it it looked like I was
attacking you. I wasn't trying to specifically counter what
you said as much as I sensed that the general reaction might be that
the Ethics statement was a pointless exercise and that it was
over-domineering by the SCs and used your quote from Bill's message
(where I also messed up cause it made it look like Bill had said
it) as something to respond to.
In general, the CC's in many states have rejected the idea of an
Ethics statement while many SC's are in favor of it. I believe this
is true because the SCs, trying to be considerate, have not exposed
the CCs to all of the ugliness that has been going on. I was trying
to shed some light on why I thought the Ethics statement was
important.

Hi All,
I mis-interpreted this message. I am so aware of the need for an Ethics
Statement, Code of Conduct, call it what you want. I am also aware of the
tremendous effort that has been put into developing it, that I took the
following to mean "Don't people have something better to do than to tear
down, berate and viciously attack those CCs that are trying to make our
USGenWeb project better."
The -ALL list is where most of the attacks were taking place. I am not on
that list for that reason. There was a lot of name calling, etc. Moral was
very low. As Patty said, we lost a lot of good people to these attacks. The
only way to deal with this was to come up with some guidelines as to what is
acceptable conduct on a mail list. That was what the Standards and Ethics
group was trying to do. Then THEY got attacked and gave up.
Peace,
Judy
