Judy,
Could you forward this to the state cc list please as it is more
for Indiana.
Maggie
Hello all,
I got this from another list. I thought I would forward it. In case
someone out there could connect to it. Sorry if you get more that one.
If you are interested reply back

Hi researchers,
I have an assortment of real genealogy treasures and would love to have
them
be my family. Since they are not, how about helping me find a fellow
researcher that is related. I will be putting this on the following
lists:
NORCAL, SOCAL, GREEN, BLACK, MISSOURI, HITCHCOCK and BOZEMAN.
My daughter recently bought a home of a deceased elderly woman, in
Ventura
California. As she was storing suitcases in the attic she
found a box of the listed items. She ask the Realtor to see if the
sellers
wanted the items and he said they didn't want anything, so, here we go!
A beautiful High School Diploma from Jacksonville Indiana for Metta A.
HANNA, dated May 14, 1922. It is 16" high and 22" long and very
decorative.
It is signed by the following people.
E.G. Copeland Superintendent
A.E. Messick Principle
G.W. Mitchelle President Board of Education
L.E. Hochstetler Secretary Board of Education
Walter E. Brissele Treasure Board of Education
There is a total of 10 State of Indiana, Crawford County, Teacher
Licenses
for Willa O. JOHNSON. Some are issued for 12 months and some for 24
months.
Evidently Willa and other teachers had to take a proficiency exam
because
the grades are shown for each subject tested. These are very attractive
documents and are all signed by the incumbent County Supervisor. They
are
dated and signed by the County Supervisor as follows:
1. 1887 J.W. Goldman
2. 1889 " "
3. 1890 " "
4. 1891 " "
5. 1892 J.F. Zimmerman
6. 1894 J.R. Duffin
7. 1895 James R. Duffin
8. 1903, Apr. 24 Chas. A Robertson
9. 1903, May 30 " " "
10. 1903, Aug. 29 Stuart A. Beals
Don't ask why there were three issued so close together in 1903!
There are eight Wright Township, Greene County, Indiana report cards for
Metta HANNA. All are signed by either S.C. Hanna or Willie or Willa
Hanna
who I assume to be Metta's parents. I will list them below as grade,
year,
teacher and first name of parent who signed.
1 1915 Bertha Moss Willie
none none Willie
3 1918 Ruby Moore Willie
4 1918 M.G. Watson S.C.
5 1920 Douglas Hudson Willie
6 1922 M.G Watson Willie
8 1924 Fannie Dayhoff S.C.
Rather sad, the 8th grade report card dated 1923/24 was unsigned my
either
parent for the last quarter. I was rapped in a note the reads, "Mother
died
Aug. 18, 1923. She was buried Aug.20, 1923. There were 162 cars at the
grave yard." Buried as written by Metta.
There are 3 letters and 8 postcards dated in 1947. They are addressed to
Mrs. Bensten/Metta Bensten. All are signed mom, dad or mom and dad.
They are all addressed to 558 E. Meta St., Ventura, California. Also,
there
are 18 post cards and 2 letters, dated 1947/48, to the same address but
addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Benny Benson/Mrs. Metta Benson, Mrs. Metta A.
Benson
and Mr. and Mrs. T.L. Benson. All of these letters were signed mom, dad
or
both. Last, one letter to Mrs. Metta Benson, % S.C. Hanna, Jacksonville,
Indiana and signed Bob.
A post card photo of a young boy and girl about 6 and 4 years old.
Appears
to be turn of the century.
A wonderful photo of 4-men and 4-women. Three of the men and women
appear
to
be in their 50's and the other man and woman in their 70's. They appear
as
four married couples. The photo looks as if it was taken in the 1920's
or
30's. No name anywhere. Size = 8" high and 10 " long.
Last, an old Sunday Service Program from the First Baptist Church of
Jacksonville, Indiana. Names mentioned in the program are Clarence E.
Baker,
Pastor. Ray Price, Sunday School Superintendent. Mrs. Morse, Dr.
Osterholm
and Margaret and Chester Jump, Missionaries to Vanga, Belgian Congo.
Any help finding a rightful owner to these items and proving themselves
so,
Will be greatly appreciated.
