IMHO, The Archives should be for "original" or microfilmed copies of the
original records, not for books unless the copyright has expired or there
is express written permission from the copyright holder to put these on the
Archives. The person accepting the materials should be responsible to
check with the submitter as to whether this is copyright-free or if
permission is given, whether it be the CC, SC, or Archives person. If we
as CC's are accepting material, then it's up to us to be sure it is okay
and not infringing. A statement of same, with the name and address (email
or snail mail) of the copyright holder should be included with the
submission.
I have read the other responses regarding "advertising" for the Gen.
Societies, and I do agree there as well. If I know that my ancestors are
featured prominently in a publication, I will more than likely buy it. If
there is only a line or two written about them, I'm not going to want to
spend money just for that little blurb.

How do YOU want the Archives to be run??? What do YOU want to see
there??? Who do YOU feel should be allowed to submit material??? Should
only the CC (after checking with the county gen club etc) be allowed to
submit??? Who do YOU feel should bear the responsibility of checking if
something is OK to upload???
Send your ideas and thoughts to the list so we can all share in this.
These are YOUR Archives and we need YOU to give your suggestions and
opinions. Don't be a wall flower on this one. There are many that feel
their opinion does not count, or that they can't be bothered.
This is important to us all. Please give us all the imput you can.
