When there are lookups done and credits are given, that should
add to the sales of these books. Indexes are not copyrightable.
Personally, whenever
I find information about someone I am researching I try
to purchase the source of the information. I agree this would HELP the
sales not hurt.
Where do YOU fit in? What should be put on the Archives and what
should
not?
I think we should accept information submitted by others and remove it only
IF and WHEN a complaint is made by a copyright owner of such material. I
hold several copyrights and would not mind this type of use of my
information and I am sure others feel the same.
Where does any of the information come from that people submit?
>Usually
from books that they have in their homes.
How much checking should we be required to do before adding information?
The time element could be overwhelming!
How do YOU want the Archives to be run??? What do YOU want to see
there??? Who do YOU feel should be allowed to submit material??? Should
only the CC (after checking with the county gen club etc) be allowed to
submit??? Who do YOU feel should bear the responsibility of checking if
something is OK to upload???
I think common sense is the only requirement and requesting pertinent
information from the submitee is all that should be required.
The reason this project has been so successful is because there are so many
willing to help others with information they have on hand...from whatever
source. I see no reason to now limit what is available and detract from the
great effort that has been made so far and limit the amount of success we
have with helping others.
I am sure most of the information we have posted is available somewhere in
written form subject to copyright laws. There would be no way to check
every possible location to insure nothing was being used in violation of
copyright laws.
Just my 2 cents worth.
