Dave et al:
I'm currently trying (summer plans make it hard to keep at it
consistently) to make alphabetical listings of all the queries I've
received on Seneca & Geauga Co.'s using CCHelper, which will hopefully make
it easier for people to find & contact other researchers. Would this
count????
I think this would be fine Alice. My only point is that when an person
visits our sites, and wishes to see if anyone is researching the same
surnames - - to me - - the logical place to start is to look for common
surnames. If the surname is then somehow linked to the query - - then
that's even better (easier) for the researcher. I would think it would be
hard (very time consuming) to go back and extract and link surnames from OLD
queries - - but our suggestion/recommendation/requirement could start with
currently received queries.
I have a Surname page on my Clark Co. WA page (was already done when
I
took it over). I notice that many will register their surnames on the
Surname page but don't leave a query on the Query page, and vice-versa.
Yes - - often people with information on their surnames will list the name
just to make contact and help other researchers (so my experience has led me
to believe). I have always included all the surnames in the query in the
surname list. That's been my practice from the start (I just copied what
others were doing at the time).
I suppose that those who don't need any information on their
names would
make
the best use of the Surname page, as opposed to those who are still
looking
for the data.
