Thanks much for your perspective Denny. You can usually be counted on for
good well thought out commentary! Actually I have a person working with me
now and would like to recognize her IF she will accept the recognition and
when it is appropriate. It appears that the "assistant" role can work, at
least for me. Sounds like you have a great person as one of your partners!

Dave,
Many years ago, before I actually became the county coordinator for
Muskingum, I had my own township project that was part of OHGenWeb. The
idea was to find people interested in adopting a township and getting them
interested in researching and contributing data for the township. When I
became CC for Muskingum, I merged the two and since the township project
idea didn't take off as well as expected, it was dropped from OHGenWeb but
remained part of the Muskingum county project.
I still have many townships that have active foster parents and one in
particular has been extremely helpful in contributing data for all other
parts of the county. He lives in Zanesville so has close ties to the
genealogy society and has held many past offices including president. He
has never wanted to be acknowledged for more than the contributions he
makes and as the adoptive host of the one township but he is about as
close to an assistant coordinator as you can get and has been vital in
getting new information, especially from his vast collection of historic
photos of the county.
I still think the township idea as a sub project of the county is still a
good idea and a way to add some new blood without actually extending a
partnership as an assistant coordinator. I find people tend to know more
about the townships, towns and cities where their ancestors were from than
the entire county and may be more willing to help if they can be
responsible in some way for that little corner of the county where they
had ties. It may also lead to finding someone who like my guy, has a
wealth of information that may have been reluctant to share. It took a few
years for me to get him to open up his wealth of info but now that he is
into it, the data keeps coming.
Good luck finding someone like him for your county!
